Refused Delivery, Replacement time?

I refused delivery of my Model Y recently, mainly due to a paint defect on the hood and both bumpers were a different shade than than the rest of the body. It had several other exterior issues as well.

I’m entirely new to the Tesla buying process. I emailed my SA to ask approx how long it take for the replacement, but so far, only radio silence from their end. The delivery person that helped us mentioned the VIN would be removed so that we could be put back on the delivery list. My (refused) VIN and MVPA are still showing in my account...

I can understand they don’t want to confirm a firm date but that’s not what I asked.. I’d like to know approx how long it will take.. I’m now out a car (just sold my car this past weekend in anticipation of delivery) and need to plan for options.

If the outside date is more than 12 weeks, then I’d rather know now so I don’t waste money renting a car and look into purchasing from another brand.. I’m also glad that I didn't have a loan with Tesla/external bank otherwise it would be another huge pain to deal with.

Anyway, can anyone that has refused delivery this year let me know approx how long it took for your replacement car to arrive?

Thanks for your reply. So... it sounds like I won't get any response lol. I know what you mean about waiting to get fewer issues. I too, have been using my bicycle to get around lately but some grocery trips require a car.

Curious, long did it take before your old VIN disappeared from your account?

I also refused my delivery more than a week ago. Got a new vin assigned, scheduled delivery for 07/11, then vin magically disappeared and was told that it had been given to someone else in California.

Good for you guys that you have an option to use your bikes. Me, I have to make do with using wife's "Hello Kitty" themed Red Mazda CX-5

Oh man.. I read lots of other posts about VIN’s being reassigned. That’s frustrating. I really hope you get your new replacement soon!

We received a text at 9:00am asking if we’d like to pick up our car today (Los Angeles) ... We declined to pick up (they gave us zero notice and vin didn’t even show up until 11:30pm last night 015xxx so I haven’t even had the opportunity to get insurance) .... we ordered on 6/8 WHT/BLK so we’re happy to wait a little longer and hopefully get a car that isn’t part of the Q2 push.

Wow terrible. There's another post about how Tesla dropped off their car at their house without notice. Tesla is really, really pushing Q2..

That is very interesting and supports what I think happened with my car yesterday. My car was built on 06/19 and paid for on 06/24 (took a couple of days for my bank to get them the check). It has continued to sit in SF since then. Yesterday the VIN and MVPA both disappeared. I was more than a little concerned since 1) I own the car and it has a lien on it with my name, and 2) it is listed on my insurance. I called the delivery specialist today (who had been trying to figure out why they hadn't moved the car to CO) and he was surprised (and clearly annoyed) that the VIN had been unassigned. Within 20 mins I had the VIN back and the delivery specialist wouldn't comment on what was going on other than "shenanigans".

If they were trying to deliver my car to someone else that is messed up. If they were continuing to hold it in SF just in case they needed to deliver it to someone else that is even more messed up. Probably will never know what transpired.

Tesla is currently 100% focused on getting every car possible delivered before the end of the month.

After the Quarter closes they will begin to schedule deliveries once again in the normal course of business.

This "All Hands On Deck" policy means exactly that. Everybody in delivery is only concerned, right now, with deliveries they can get done by midnight EOQ.

After the Quarter ends, they will begin reaching out to other buyers waiting for deliveries.

Happens most every Quarter.

The insurance part is moot. In California, as long as you have an existing policy, you're covered for the first 14 days on a newly acquired car.

But yeah, I don't blame you for declining. They want as many delivered today as possible.

I also refused delivery today. Tesla was a mad house and the majority of people were accepting obvious body imperfections! I know because I walked the lot and saw quite a few misaligned headlights, tail lights, doors and quarter panels! The imperfections on my MY (VIN 222XX) were too much on the far side of “spec” that we couldn’t accept.
- front passenger quarter panel misaligned and visible to naked eye (was allegedly “within spec”)
- rear passenger door misaligned and visible to the naked eye (they said they’d fix this at a later date)
- rear right side tail light a while ring finger width apart from body (again was within spec)
- rough body molding on passenger side view mirror (they said they’d fix this at a later date)
- rear passenger seat panel was loose (they did fix this)
- minor scuffs on paint they were able to buff out
- middle cup holder made rattling sounds they said there was nothing to fix
- Black trim didn’t really match up on both sides

Luckily the rear seat alignment was perfect. Headliner was tight and clean. Some sticky residue from plastic on middle console. Wireless charging worked fine. Sound system sounded awesome.

Just wished we could’ve driven it home! But just couldn’t accept it with those flaws being a $70k car. Hopefully our next VIN will be better!

I can totally relate to how it feels not being able to drive home!! It was extremely busy at my delivery too.. Good for you for refusing delivery. I hope all goes well with your next VIN!!
