Rep say I have VIN - can't tell me what it is..

Posted this on the AWD delivery thread, but it got buried..

Called yesterday and a rep told me we have a VIN assigned, however - she couldn't tell me what it was.
I asked if she could at least tell me the last 5 digits, but she could not.
Has anyone else experienced this?

It seems all other accounts I have seen here, you either have a VIN and they tell you - or you do not...
Normally I would just "trust the process", but seeing all the delivery snafus on this forum I'm not content to do so - hence my calling them in the first place.

Same here, and pretty common. When they changed the inspection processa week or two ago... they stopped giving out VIN's until inspection was completed and delivery is scheduled. Your account page 'process' shows this as well.

Sucks.
I'd say keep calling and get a different rep...I got my VIN on Friday by just asking, even though the DA hasn't reached out yet.

I love how you asked for the last 5 digits. 5YJ3E1EBXHF0_____ I'm in the same situation but they have had mine since the 9th and I have not heard back. Yes it would be nice to have but it is causing Tesla so many issues by giving it early.

I'll tell you what - after that call my edit link bounces me back to the main page.

So I'm quite hopeful. If I don't get any word within a few days, I'll follow up.
Mostly want that VIN now to get an idea of when it's made - but word is it's not a very accurate method to get build dates anyway.

So is if I take delivery next Friday shouldn't have I recieved a vin by now?
I believe they will tell you 7 days before delivery.

Just to add another data point, I also called once my edit link took me back to my main account page. The first 2 reps would not give me the VIN, but the 3rd did. I just called once a day starting on Sunday, they also told me who my delivery specialist was. I have not heard from them though and my page still shows that they’re drafting my documents.

I got vin from my DA through email. He responds pretty good, as of now. Sequence of events is, got first email from DA, then filled out finance details, then DA gave me vin when I requested.
He now emailed me MVPA with vin on it that I can use for finalizing my loan. This is again upon my request. Delivery is scheduled for Sept 6th.

After my trade-in status changed to yellow on Sunday (8/19) still waiting for a VIN in Connecticut. Tesla rep answered on the first ring today. Said my VIN was assigned but could not share it and that car is in transit. No calls or emails from DA.

I know this thread has evolved from OP. But this happened to me as well.

You now only get VIN within 7 days of your delivery date is what I was told. You can have your car paid for, financing done, car en-route to destination, they aren’t going to give you the VIN before. New-ish policy.

From my own experience, and everything on this thread so far it seems like it's standard practice now.

I don't think it really matters.

What I find funny is how slow the process is.

It's around a days turn around time for any question. If you have more than a few questions it might be weeks of getting everything in order.

Heck I caused my own delivery to slip because of a simple reading comprehension failure on my fault. For some reason I interrupted an email from the DS asking for my loan payoff amount on my trade in as her saying that it was the next step she was going to do.

I had already filled out all the information necessary to get that (the provider and loan number). I guess the DS's are so busy that they push that work onto the customer. It only took me a couple minutes to do, but that was another days turn around.

I'm still waiting for the VIN, and I gave that info yesterday.

I have the same issue, got the email 2 days ago with delivery mid September. I asked if I can have the VIN and was told that I do have one but they don't want to provide it because it can often change before delivery. I said I needed it for my insurance but he said they only require 1 business day to set up the insurance so he'd provide it closer to delivery to be safe. I don't really need it for anything was just curious what it was.

This is for delivery in Toronto at the downtown store. The DA has been super fast replying to emails, all within 5-10 minutes of me sending them.
