Sentry mode not recording

Have a new thumb drive, was reformatted through console screen. Camera with red dot on. Events triggered but nothing when viewer is launched.

Oh i haven't. I thought newer car they cancelled data transmission for the usb port in center console

That was the 3/Y due to parts shortages and/or saving costs. The S/X has always included the front console USB ports as data ports.

Registered just to share a solution I found. Brand new model Y, factory usb drive but won’t record anything. Turns out had to open up settings page and click recording button (right above sentry button) and a pop up window shows up asking to agree to privacy stuff. After that both dash cam and sentry mode started to work as expected.

I just noticed there is a new (? Hadn't noticed before) "camera -based detection" option in the safety menu.
My M3 also stopped recording regular sentry mode clips at end of 2022: I wonder if this option was added by a recent software update and I did not notice until now (and the default is obviously "off")
