Just want to note the end goal of public/private asset-backed securitization is pretty standard for every other auto manufacturer. I think most have 'auto loan' subsidiaries so this is really nothing new, other than Tesla setting up the same way. I don't think it's significant in any meaningful way for the short term but it is another item checked off the list to hit the ground running when Gen 3 is ready.

I think that significance for the short term is Tesla finding a much better use for potentially up to $2B+ in just raised cash then just to collect interest.

once again, Tesla takes an issue head on:

When Life Gives You Lemons... | Blog | Tesla Motors

one excerpt:

Another issue was that the car's fuse blew on three occasions. Each time, our engineers explored all possible explanations and were never able to find anything wrong with the car. Still, just to be sure, we replaced several parts that could have been related to the alleged problem – all at no expense to the customer. When the fuse kept blowing despite the new parts, and faced with no diagnosis showing anything wrong with the car, the engineers were moved to consider the possibility that the fuse had been tampered with. After investigating, they determined that the car's front trunk had been opened immediately before the fuse failure on each of the three occasions. (The fuse is accessed through the front trunk.) Ultimately, Tesla service applied non-tamper tape to the fuse switch. From that point on, the fuse performed flawlessly.

It's also of interest to note that this particular lawyer filed a lemon law suit against Volvo in February last year – on behalf of the very same client.

That is going to get very interesting. I think that it is especially poignant to just-appose TM response with the lawyer's youtube masterpiece. Talking about showing to firefight with a water pistol -to borrow the phrase from Top Gear MS Maseratti Ghibli comparison. (Maserati Ghibli takes on Tesla Model S - BBC Top Gear)

He probably thought that his analogy of MS and a "four-slicer" is hysterically funny... May be he will learn that among other things a four-slicer (toaster, I presume) does not allow collection of diagnostic data...

yes it will be interesting to see the coverage of this in the media. while I suspect there will be those trying to spin this as Elon being "too thin skinned" and "bullying with data" at Seeking Alpha and the Murdoch owned outlets (WSJ, Barrons, Marketwatch), Tesla has presented quite an effective response. perhaps a bit of a help to the short-term price... though frankly, there's so much volatility, and so much going on with the company, probably wont have a clearly distinguishable impact. it does however reinforce the message... playing games with Tesla is not wise.

Oh man, I would pay into a Tesla offense fund for them to sue this lawyer and plaintiff into poverty. I absolutely hate it when people abuse the legal system like this. There ought to be a public nuisance law that prosecutors can use to go after scum like this.

Deeply cool.

end of this video just out, Tesla VP Simon Sproule is asked about demand plateauing in the U.S., says Tesla does not believe that's the case, and "maybe it's beholden on us to explain the order delivery process." fwiw, as I've suggested before, if there was any plateauing, shorts need to watch out... I suspect any such plateau was a temporary result of the fires, which of course has now been addressed.

I think Mr. Sproule makes an astute observation about communication on delivery process, because the naysayers will use any ambiguity or unknown to try to spook the market.

Not to mention fraud, and possible security law violations - the lemon suit got national media play and no doubt affected the stock price. Hey, maybe us investors could sue them for fraudulently manipulating the stock price.

Wasn't there another law firm specialising in FUDge and jamming Tesla/TSLA? Pommerantz iirc. And now this Lemon law suit. Citrus conspiracy spreading?

Goldman Sachs weighs in on Tesla Motors
07:57 AM ET · TSLA

Goldman Sachs maintains a Neutral rating on Tesla Motors (TSLA) after meeting with management.
The investment firm heard from Tesla execs that the Model S build out will step up in H2 and the Model X should be out before the end of the year.
Of note, Tesla management indicated the company's commercial relationship with Panasonic hasn't changed. The statement could be taken as a denial that Panasonic has pulled out in any way from the Gigafactory project.

I view the GS Note as huge. What was their prior price target? Moving to $200 is giant leap. That production info is highly significant. They also say they think registrations ahead of Q1 guidance. The comments about Panasonic are ambiguous. Could be wrong, but when all that is absorbed, I think strong for TSLA today.

They upgraded to $200 on March 18th.
