Should I let Tesla fix my paint overspray?

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
Was delivered like this and is on the due bill. Have a service appointment tomorrow. Looks like a little sanding and buffing should be sufficient for the overspray before I take it in for ceramic. I’m going to ask them to only address if it will not require painting. Should I trust Tesla Service to handle it?

The other issues may need a touch up. Anyone request / receive touch up paint for similar blemishes?

I was at Fremont SC yesterday too for a bunch of fit and finish issues, including 2 paint issues (but more minor than yours). The service advisor said they will try to fix it in the SC itself but if it's too complicated, they will send it to a body shop, which may take a couple more days. It's day #2 now, and I haven't heard back yet, so I'll check in later with them.

Did you need to have your doors adjusted as well? I guess I shouldn’t expect it back tomorrow then. Let me know what they tell you.
At least they gave me some Uber credits.

Doors should take minutes to adjust if it is just sagging or sticking out/in compared to another panel. They adjusted several of mine in front of me when it came back from the body shop like the body guy was drunk or something.

lol. My guy may have been drunk or car could have been built on a Monday morning. Maybe both.

Well .. at least I got my car back in two days. They sanded off a little more than expected. I think I prefer the little dimples over this but I'll just have to live with it. Lol. The door alignment is a hardly any better but at least i don't have to look at it while enjoying the ride.

OMG.... My car is still at Fremont Service Center... day #3. Estimate is car back on day #5. They said they sent it to a body shop. Did yours go to a body shop?

How about other paint issues in your OP?

Yes I have door trim alignment issue just like yours... (along with a host of other issues: 11 issues on new car - Tesla SC quotes almost $700 to fix 7 of them?) It must have been the same drunk guy on that fateful Monday morning on the assembly line. Let's see if what it looks like when it comes back. I need all the karma credits I can get...

I think most peoples trim is misaligned like that, I wouldn't worry about that. The paint I would be a little iffy about... If all they did was sand it down, that probably didn't do much more than make it worse, heh. I'd either have them fix it right at a body shop (i would look into the body shop and make sure they have a good reputation) or work out some goodwill to keep it how it is. Or stay away and enjoy what you have. :) Best luck any which way. At least you have it back now.

No mention of body shop. Notes just state sanding and polishing. The rest of the paint issues they just touched up with paint. I'm not too picky about things in the door jambs. Make sure you call them and leave a message on the estimated completion date. Nobody contacted me on or picked up the phone until I left a message asking wtf at 5pm. Then I got a notification in my app saying the car was ready. The rep texted me and apologized that she wasn't in at the service center that day so she couldn't process the car. Nice people working there but they definitely need to work on their processes.

Thanks. I think I'd rather not give them another shot at it. I'm just glad they didn't wash the car too.
