Signature Owners: Rated Miles after charging

Ask them if Ideal Range takes into account your driving habits. If they say "no" then they are clearly confused. (My delivery specialist said exactly this.)

Ideal and Rated are a fixed ratio.

That made me think -- I wonder if this problem/misinformation stems from the fact that the same "switch" in the UI USED to allow you to switch the display from a fixed-ratio value to a driving-based value (whereas now it's two fixed-ratio values).

@cinergi
In other words, maybe they are remembering "left setting" of the old UI ("Projected vs. Rated") and then improperly mapped it to "left setting" of new UI ("Rated vs. Ideal")?

I have a feeling the new "Typical" setting will make it even more confusing to discuss with reps/specialists.

Exactly. Given what I hear when I talk to employees, I'm not surprised. I often turn the tables and educate them :) But given how frequently the software is changing, I'm not surprised.

By "driving history" I think they mean it recalibrates the capacity estimate after long drives, similar to the Roadster.

I think djp is on to something here. After returning from a road trip last night with 23 miles remaining, I plugged in. Low and behold, I woke up this morning to 232 rated miles on a 90% charge. This must be what people refer to when they say driving history is incorporated into battery capacity estimates.

What do you think your rated range was before on a 90% charge?

Can you and others fill out my survey, I'll post a summary in about a week once I get more responses.

I meant to reply earlier. Sorry for the delay.

If you're saying something like "the process of identifying the instantaneous charge and charge capacity is complicated and is sensitive to the recent climate and consumption experiences of the battery", that makes a ton of sense to me.

That's somewhat different than the "projected range" type calculation that I read into the paraphrased quotes that have been offered earlier in the thread. At least to my human interpretation it's different.

Exactly. The system monitors the battery as it's discharged to observe how much power it holds. A long discharge will give a more accurate reading and a chance for the system to recalibrate its estimate of total battery capacity.

If projected range based on driving behaviour was included in the calculation then we'd see a lot more variation in the rated ranges, and it would go against the definition of an EPA rated range.
