Sometimes I want headlights staying on when I'm out of the car

As mentioned before, kinda silly and awkward reaching center console from outside rhe car.. Not losing any sleep over it.. just annoyance. No choice but to accept this as part of the quirkiness of owning a Tesla.

You have to turn the lights back on after you get out of the driver's seat. They'll stay on indefinitely at whatever setting you choose.

Rather than arguing about how you think it should work, maybe accept the way it actually works.

Exactly.

1. Open door (while still sitting on the driver seat)
2. Lift yourself up a bit from the seat so that the car turns off (you can see this from the main screen lower right corner)
3. Shift the lights / parking lights on and they stay on when you get up and close the door.

You can do it from inside the car, you just have to lift your butt out of the seat to turn the car off first. Once the car is off, you can sit back down and adjust whatever you want without having to lean in awkwardly from the outside.
