Squeaky Windows...

Any recommendations on getting the front windows to stop squeaking so much? The issue has been brought up to the SC a number of times and every time it comes back, the squeak is initially gone, but eventually it will come back with a vengeance (to the point where it is embarrassing to pull the window down with people around as it literally sounds like someone passing gas...). I think beyond adjusting the window fit, someone suggested using some rubber protectant. For those who have dealt with this problem, do you recommend any specific brand? Would the standard Armor-all do? thanks

Last time I told people to use WD40 on other squeaky stuff I got so many disagrees. So, just bring it to SC again and again until they fix it. People are expecting permanent fix so you should too.

Like you I have brought it in and it was gone initially, twice. It came back shortly after so I gave up. There are so many compromises to make on this car that we’ve all gotten used to.

I had the same issue. Here is diagnosis and fix:

Ditto on the window noise issue. Here's what my local SC did:

Concern: Customer states the left front window was making a clicking noise when rolling up
or down. Window regulator was special ordered.
Pay Type: Warranty
Corrections: Window Regulator - Front - LH
Verified customer's concern, found driver's side front window regulator to be inoperative.
Removed and replaced driver's front window regulator. Driver's side front window currently
operating as designed.

Repair was completed two weeks ago and so far it's silent.

My window regulator was also replaced. Noise came back after a while.

I had squeaks, went to an SC and now they're gone.

Concern: Customer: Both front windows squeak during operation

Corrections: Door Glass - LH - Front

Technician verified customer concern, recommends lubrication of window tracks and seals.

Upon completion, verified operation and elimination of noise.

same issue here. I've had both front window regulators replaced, both molding / seal replaced due to squeaking noise and wind noise.

a month later the squeaking noise came back on driver side, whenever the window goes up and down it makes the noise.

I noticed it's the loudest when the car sit outside in the sun for a while, when it's extremely hot. at night when it's cold it does it occasionally.... the rubber seems to be sensitive to temperature.

for a 100k car this is unacceptable.

I sell cars for a living and I have cars sitting in my lot for weeks even months, none of them made noise.

even my dad's 1998 Toyota Avalon with 250k miles, never had a window issue, still original window molding/seal, never made a sound.

Being my own personal car i don't really care, the overall good experience overrides the little flaws here and there. but for the mass consumer market out there, this small issue can be a big issue.

My front passenger door window sometimes squeaks (faintly to loudly) during the final 1” when closing. It is not related to temperature; can happen any time of day. My SC said it is caused by the brightwork trim piece on the top of the door / base of the windows putting too much pressure on the glass. They have ordered me a new trim piece. Not installed yet

My driver side door window has never made the squeaking sound.

Followup to my post of Oct 2017: I’ve had my X in four times to my local service center. No matter what they do, the squeak comes back. And my front driver side window also intermittently squeaks. The noise occurs when the window raises the final fraction of an inch upon closing. It does not happen when I lower and the raise the window all the way, only when the window is as high as it will go with the door open and then the moment the door closes and the window raises fully.

It is loudest when the air temperature is over 75 or so, but intermittent even then. Rarely occurs below 70.

It’s really getting annoying. It can be so loud that passengers shriek when they first hear it. Whatever the service center has done the noise eventually comes back.

I fixed mine by applying the yellow cap silicone stuff made by wd40. It’s not the original wd40, it’s the stuff that is safe for rubber. I spray some onto a towel, rubbed it at the top of window and inside the rubber molding. All the noise went away

This product? WD-40 Specialist

How often do you have to reapply?

Yes

I had that problem when I first the car in December and January. I would say I did it 3-5 times within two weeks of time, it then magically went away. Along with some rattles, I am telling you, the Tesla is haunted.

I didn't take it to Tesla also as I had tints on it, the tint made the squeek worse initially

I have this issue too involving the final 1" when the windows shifts up once door is closed. I'm going to purchase this WD-40 product with the yellow cap cited above.

My front windows have tint as well. @mattack4000 I assume since you also have tint that it is safe to use on tint, particularly the edges of the glass on top where it will likely need to be applied?.

I just applied a coating of WD-40 Speciality on my X front door seals at the top where the glass rubs against the seal. Will post again with results.

Note: I have a 70% tint on both my front side windows. I’m wondering if in some cases the tint interacts with the door seal material to produce the squeak noise. It seems clear that the vast majority of X vehicles don’t have the squeak noise or they would be many more posts about it. But at no point in any of my 4 visits with Tesla Service about this issue was any mention made of window tinting being a possible cause.
