Driving from Halifax to Brewer, ME is a bit of a pain with only the Aulac station, but it's doable with only 2 longish stops for lunch/dinner/whatever. Since it is a 680 km / 7 hour driving time trip, it seems that plausible that many people making that trek could make such a stop.
Maybe Tesla figured if they built Aulac it would at least open up Halifax to the US (more or less).
Or maybe these things just happen when permits and local land owners and leases all fall into place and maybe Tesla doesn't have complete control over timing.
