So it's finally here!! Construction has just finished on an 8-stall Supercharger at the Hampton Inn Downtown Montreal, in the city's Chinatown. There are also 6 Tesla Destination chargers and 8 Electric Circuit chargers which cost $1/session.

Before you get too excited, the site is an urban Supercharger, and the parking rates are outrageous. If you thought parking at Hotel X was expensive, or even at the Eaton Centre, you're in for a hell of a surprise. The rate for this garage is $13.50/hour, to a maximum rate of $38/daily!!

Personally, I can't say I'm very excited with this pick seen the parking rates, and I'm quite underwhelmed with the fact there are just Urbans. In good-ish news, the Supercharger techs should activate the site by the end of the week.

Regardless, this wins as my first fresh Supercharger find, in my hometown on top of that. I can die happy now.

Is this a gated parkade?
Is there a certain time limit where you won't get charged, like under 30 minutes?
I've done both ways where there isn't a gate and i go and charge and scope around for the parking attendant (downtown Vancouver) and going into the parkade, grab a quick charge and leave before the time limit to start charging parking (Whistler).

Crap.

So I've heard on the grapevine that some members of the Supercharger team scan this forum, and apparently you don't like me very much cause I've leaked a bunch of future locations. Maybe now you'll have an actual reason to hate me since this Supercharger is seriously garbage and I just wanted to let you guys know how much.

I honestly wonder who forged the $100,000 cheque that resulted in this location getting built. I'm truly puzzled on how in hell this location got approved by Tesla when there are many other locations in Quebec which actually need Superchargers. The location itself isn't half bad, although in return for that "convenience" the parking rates are incredibly steep, on top of the chargers being only 72kW. If I'm paying top dollar for charging, I would at least expect the chargers to be V3. $10.5/hour for parking (on top of charging fees) is literally ridiculous.

I have no idea who picked this spot but whoever it is, that person is terrible at picking Supercharger locations. That is, unless Hampton Inn sponsored the Supercharger, which I hope to hell is the case. There are so many other properties in the city which I am sure would have been happy to host a Supercharger while charging at much more reasonable parking rates or better none at all. Also yes, I noticed the parking fees were reduced and a 10-minute grace period was added, although I'll be quick to point out one massive flaw with that plan. It seems like the team forgot about the 8-minute in-n-out dodge. Here's how it works: Charge for 8 minutes, unplug and get the hell out of there, take a spin around the block then go back and charge for another 8 minutes. Repeat until battery is full. I was responsible and only charged for a few minutes, but I can guarantee not everyone will do that, since at the end of the day, Tesla owners are just as cheap as everyone else.

...there is definitely some type of grace period because I was there about 10 minutes and had no charge, just exited with the ticket and it said "HAVE A NICE DAY!" If you wanted to be a super nit, you could do this over and over again to avoid a parking fee, but you will eventually ruin this for everyone as happened at the supercharger in downtown San Diego :)

So that pretty much sums it up, although I do have one more major complaint, and that is the name of the site. Like honestly, how did Tesla manage to f*** that up? Not only is the parking entrance on St-Lawrence, even the car map says the address is 985 St-Lawrence. Yet, someone decided to call the site Rue Viger, which isn't even a thing! I presume they are talking about Av Viger, which is the crossroads of the hotel, but it isn't where the entrance or exit is. I'd kindly ask for the name to be changed (either to general Montreal, QC - Ville-Marie or Montreal, QC - Boul. St-Laurent) because I sense an all out fistfight is on the point of breaking out between me, the TMC mods and the other SIF editors over accuracy. This is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed.

I think it's fine to be mad that they aren't building more superchargers in other parts of Montreal or Quebec, but there's no reason to get upset about this particular supercharger being built. If it isn't useful to you, then you don't have to use it. Sometimes a building or parking garage owner just decides they want a supercharger and they will give Tesla some type of favorable deal in order to get it installed. With those parking fees, they could even be paying for the electricity and still breaking even so they may just see it as an "amenity" they offer to guests.

There is a supercharger in Manhattan that has a minimum parking fee of 35USD (I can't remember exactly, but it's something like that) and you have to give up your car to the valet who drives it on to an elevator and then plugs it in to the urban supercharger on an upper floor. There are many other similar ones there that cost like 20USD. Those superchargers are totally useless to 99% of Tesla drivers but I'm sure there are people who live in the area who appreciate them.
