Got to Morgan Hill and got to do the free Supercharging as it was still not officially open yet. But to top off the great experience, I got there right as the Tesla Solar livecast started, which I got to watch while I charged on my new center screen YouTube, over my still available cellular connection.

That's a lot of free new stuff!

I checked the PG&E maps for the power shut off area down here and while the vast majority of this area falls in the shut off zone, there’s a small area of Morgan Hill near Cochrane and 101 and some surrounding residences that are not in that cut off area. Last shut off, 10/9-10/10 this area was dark.

Just my conjecture but I think Tesla’s new Supercharger location here is the reason this area is targeted to stay on this time, at least until there would be fire over in the ranges right there. Being able to charge your car (and phone inside your car) is an important lifeline especially if wildfires breakout in this area. The Cochrane Road/Target plaza, in addition to food and restaurant sources, also has a gas station in it, and hopefully for non-Tesla EVs they’ve been able to get the 4-stalls of ChargePoints working, although think they are L2s so slower charging.

I did check the map and also used the street address locator for more exact location of shut off to see if other Superchargers in what looked to be “identified” dark areas were still tagged as live areas and saw that Los Gatos was and even Blossom Hill/San Jose were all address id’d as Live. Gilroy Supercharger is also in the Live area. The other area along this corridor of 101 not affected happens to be around the Metcalf power plant north of Morgan Hill before San Jose.

Haven’t checked the Tesla Online Charger Maps or Nav directions for Charging yet but hope anyone needing to charge at this point in their travels will be aware it’s open.

We were at Target today and drove past the Supercharging area. Half full. number of units and number used not yet added to the screen in the car. Stopped to look at the ChargePoint units and the screens are up so available to use now.

I’m not signed up on PlugShare but can someone who is see that the 14 Tesla Superchargers are added along with the 4 ChargePoint L2s. Not Showing on their map yet. As there’s not a lot of charging in the immediate area, it will be helpful to owners driving in the vicinity.

Lol on the scolding, and thumbs up on the other. Since we haven’t traveled much with exception of central coast Calif., the Tesla Supercharger system has our charging needs covered. I have looked at Plugshare to help out others when looking for a charging solution and its a great app. See that they have some new features introduced.

Thanks again for the assist on that front!

MH superchargers are open. Good thing since most of the city is without power due to the PSPS since 8:35pm last night. 4 stalls charging and only 32kW, just 2x the rate on my HPC at home.

What was your SOC at time you started charging? Yesterday when I was there I was about 50% and had a rate of 55kW but the system had already likely determined it was time to start tapering. The urban chargers only get 72-75kW max as I recall.

I just found out about this. I was in that shopping center in early October and didn't see the construction.

I work for a company in Morgan Hill and go down there from time to time. Having a supercharger there is convenient. though I was staying at a hotel with destination chargers.

Every morning after SB coffee there I intentionally exit that way to check out the Supercharger use and always see a car or several there. On the weekend maybe half or more full at times. I think it's a good location in general for people traveling along 101

Went for coffee this a.m. and decided to drive by the SC area only to see this:

Every EV charging spot, including ChargePoint, was blocked by Target shopping carts, except for the spots with two cars shown. I went into the store and spoke to the manager, starting off with I know Target is very supportive of EVs, and asked if he could send someone out to collect their carts. He did and they are collecting the large group of them now. Not seeing any carts in any of the corrals. Just shaking my head... EV haters are out there.

Thanks Target for the prompt retrieval of the carts!

I charge at home almost exclusively so didn’t notice when this change occurred but see that the number charging/number of urban chargers available counter is now on the app for Morgan Hill. And looks like the shoppers/travelers are out this a.m. Nice timing having the counter working for all the holiday travelers. Happily with the shopping carts now out of the spots, people needing a charge here won’t think the units are down and drive on. Already a few more charging. Had I known the counter was up, I would have checked on Black Friday.

BTW Tesla App update as of 24th if you haven’t noticed.

Thank you for getting the situation with the carts straightened out!!!

As far as statistics go, Morgan Hill was definitely showing stall occupancy yesterday (Black Friday), saw it on my Nav display while driving there (while everybody else was shopping, I was logging touch-and-go charges on new Superchargers, including Morgan Hill). It's a nice location...I like that the chargers are far away from the store entrance so in theory less likely to be ICEd (obviously as you discovered that doesn't prevent mischief). Also easy access to the freeway (unlike Menlo Park, which is where I was before this). No blockage when I was there late morning yesterday, and stalls were about half-full.

Bruce.
