Tesla cancelled refreshed Model S and X plans for RHD models

It's not really Tesla's fault that you decided to import parts for a car you don't currently own. You counted your chickens before they hatched.
So, Tesla advertised the car and accepted an order and took a deposit AND allocated a VIN. I own a Tesla Model S RHD P85D and Tesla never made so much as a peep that there was even a possibility that they would not make a RHD on the refreshed Model S.

Under those circumstances there was no counting of chickens before they hatched because they already made that type of chicken.

I read somewhere that they only sell around 35,000 RHD Model S & X per year and they do not see it as viable.

Napkin math so please don't get too picky...:

35,000 cars @ around US$100,000 per car. Average net profit around15% and probably higher.

US$3.5 Billon in revenue and around US$525+ million profit. If they make 20% it goes to $700 million.

I would be happy to pay another US$20k to get one of these cars so if everyone else would even pay $10k more that takes the profit to possibly over the billion $ mark.

Does not seem like their reasoning is valid to me.

I spent 2 1/2 years dreaming of this car. Scrimping and saving so I could manage to fund the car when it arrived. No holidays, no personal spending, just a dream of owning the fastest production car on the planet and taking it to the track. Then they pull the rug out from under me for no valid reason I can see.

So when I am also out of pocket such a significant amount I feel I am rightly pissed off and deserve compensation (in removing my loss - not making a profit).

They would make more profit if they manufactured more of them due to efficiencies of scale in the whole lifecycle.

They simply cannot build these faberge eggs.

No, that's how many RHD Model S & X they've sold since the beginning of selling them in RHD, not per year. Looking at NZ's stats, they've only sold around 190 Model S since they launched here and around 290 Model X.

I get buying accessories like floor mats, cubby shelves, etc in anticipation of a new vehicle but it seems like an interesting choice to buy actual parts before having even paid for the car. I get you're disappointed that your dream car isn't coming here, I would be too, but I don't think you can blame Tesla for the parts you purchased

agree on specialised parts on advance order...
what if car were delivered but much changed by that time and those customised part wouldn't work with new version of Model X/S? Tesla is known to do such things and many time made changes more than once in a year for Model 3/Y in last years....
All investments come with risks associated.... invested in dream, comes at cost... it's similar to paying collage fees before kids are born - no guarantee that you get to use it or get refund as kids and education are delivered by different departments ;)
