Tesla locking loaner cars in chill mode?

A Tesla in chill mode is actually still quicker than most other cars on the road! If you’re struggling to drive it normally then the problem can’t really be said to be the car!

Every car you drive that isn’t your own needs some degree of extra “assessment” as to its performance before you decide to make a manoeuvre that places particular expectations on acceleration, braking or handling. (We probably all do that when first driving an unfamiliar hire car.) However, to avoid any issues for drivers I think it would be a good idea for Tesla to let them know if the car has been set in Chill mode. (People reading this thread will have no excuse because we now know about the issue and can check the car settings before driving off.)
Not really, Chill mode badly cripples the car. Stupid to have a 500 BHP car and restrict it. It's pretty much the same acceleration as my other half's Juke. Fine for around town, but if you do a lot of intercity motorway driving (which I do) it's a PIA on long motorway journeys, which is why I always try and buy cars with a lot of torque.

In tesla's defence they (sort of) let you know. In the agreement you sign it sees the speed will be restricted, which is eminently sensible, I just didn't twig that this would also lock chill acceleration

It really is. I drive in chill mode all the time and I can beat almost every car at traffic lights. Even more so when accelerating on the motorway.

You make a good point though. Nissan Jukes come with a big warning sign "Not suitable for motorway driving". Weird how many people ignore that warning :)
Sarcasm, that's nice for you.

It honestly is similar. Maybe chill mode is different on different models? On a 6 year old 75D model S I can confirm it's awful

If I needed a loaner car for a couple of days then it really wouldn’t bother me what it was. But if I needed one for a couple of months it would be a different matter, especially if it was a warranty claim and the delay was caused by Tesla being unable to source parts in a timely manner. I would expect an MP3 with FSD and no limitations on its performance. I don’t see why I should have to put up with something inferior if the cause (warranty claim) is up to Tesla to sort out. Nor should I be penalised because their supply chain still leaves a lot to be desired.

Exactly this. If I had been told that it was for a week, I'd be like "fine, give me whatever" but to not like for like replace for at least 2 months is pretty shoddy.

My brother in law has bought an ex loaner car tesla 3. The company have got it locked in chill mode. He owns a tesla S . Apparently he needs a pin code to deactivate this. The car is registered in his name. Is there a way he can deactivate this. He can't go to the loaner company as they went bust

Is it in valet mode, which locks chill mode and other things like max speed, glovebox etc, or just chill mode locked?

Valet mode is probably easier to unlock; there may even be a way of entering tesla ID and password and/or via the app of main account owner, but just chill mode is possibly a more specialist unlock, which begs the question of how it got in that mode in the first place.

I'm surprised the OP didn't mention Tesla's response to resolving this issue. They're surely the first point of call.
