I was thing about rear axes.

But don't you think that would look a bit weird with rear tires that were an inch taller than the fronts? And I don't believe anyone has truly shown that those even fit on the rear of the car without significant interference. It's a bit of an extreme intervention to rectify the modest declines in horsepower as the electric motors get higher in their RPM bands. Keep in mind that even though you might have more horsepower to work with because of the taller gear at speeds over 60 miles per hour or so, you still got the effect of the taller gear ratio on torque. All this means that you're making a very modest difference an actual acceleration at high speed.
