Tesla Model S P85D Delivery and Walkthrough video (all features of the car explained)

If you want to save yourself 40 something minutes at the dealership when taking in your Model S, you can just watch the delivery walkthrough now to familiarize yourself with the car. This way, when you get your car delivered, you can just start driving it. I personally couldn't wait to get on the road as soon as the car arrived. I wished this video existed prior to taking delivery so I could save myself the extra 42 minutes at the dealership.

She is incorrect as far as I know. The small cluster of holes just above the 12V plug in the center console are openings for the interior temperature sensor which the HVAC system uses. My 2013 S has them, not just on newer cars.

She also should have clearly explained what the USB ports can be used for. Some people assume that their phone or music player can be connected to them so that the audio output goes through the USB cable to the car, but in fact the audio output uses Bluetooth unless a USB memory stick is used. All the USB ports do for a phone or music player is provide charging current.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone else also notice that the USB ports charges things very slowly? I think a wall charger charges my iPhone faster. Or maybe it's just me.

Thanks for posting this. Although I don't really need an official walk through it was a good review and fun to watch while I still don't have my car to drive. Once upon a time, Tesla had an official video on their website under Videos. I'm not sure where that would be now and most likely they have pulled it down as it was based on an older version of the car and the software (at least a year old). Although I can appreciate that having someone video you and then put it online must have put pressure on the delivery specialist, I couldn't help noting things I didn't necessarily agree with or that she could have presented better. Nit picky but I do believe its important that the specialist have the latest and greatest information. I'm assuming the walk through was done before 6.1 so some of her omissions are just due to that. Must have been fairly embarrassing to have someone videoing as they tried to explain the missing NG seats. Anyway, I can't remember the specific points of contention I had so they must not have been that major.

It was 6.0 when the walkthrough happened. It was delivered to me on Dec. 23rd.

As far as I can tell, the two things that she got wrong were how the "auto" setting in the climate control worked (which I corrected her on the spot), and that she called the temperature sensor above the USB port a speaker (which I couldn't correct her, because I didn't know what it was). She also mentioned that I had to manually choose 10-12 Amps if I plug in the 110 V plug. I know I don't have to do it, but I'm not sure if older versions of the OS required it. If not, then she got that wrong, too.

Naturally I couldn't resist watching it and listing mistakes. I have to say first that i realize that going through the entire car while being recorded is a difficult gig and I would probably not do as good a job if i had to do it - overall she did a pretty good job and definitely had a lot of enthusiasm. That being said, here is my list;
- With regard to the 110V point, I bought my first car about a year ago and it was capable of adapting. I'm not sure where this comes from but it isn't accurate now.
- When she was talking about the charge port door and how you would have to open it from the car (if you weren't at a supercharger or using an HPWC) she missed the fact that there is now a feature where you can push and hold the fob trunk button for 2 seconds to open the charge port
- There were a couple of options that were greyed out. Normally this happens if the car is either not in park, or off. I'm pretty sure the slip start option is one of these. Not sure about the service mode as I don't have my car right now.
- Creep mode. She described it as working when you take your foot of the gas. That might have been a slip of the tongue but basically it allows the car to move when you take your foot off the brake.
- She described regeneration as taking the forward momentum of the car and putting it back into the brakes. Might have been another tongue slip and possibly she meant battery.
- Range mode - she described as going on a long long trip. Nothing necessarily wrong with that but increasingly I think we will be using this wherever efficiency is important. (OK that's nit picky)
- For the energy saving "Always Connected" option she suggested that you could not connect to your mobile device unless this is ticked. My understanding is that this keeps the connection even in energy savings mode (presumably sacrificing some energy savings) whereas if it is not ticked, you can still connect but you have to wait for the car to wake up. I might be wrong about this - again I don't have my car right now.
- The "e-brake" discussion was interesting. My impression of this option is that you can turn off the car even when you're sitting in it - i.e. without getting out of the seat and leaving the car. She suggested that if you want to leave the car but leave it on for someone still in the car, you would use this option. I'm thinking that this might allow you to turn it off and then touch the touch screen to turn on the music etc. and then you could leave the vehicle - essentially this just prevents the other person from having to touch the touch screen.
- I made a note about tow mode but I'm not sure why. Maybe I thought she should have mentioned it.
