First group of reservation holders received email from Tesla titled with " Thank you for your order" yesterday, with attachment of order agreement. Obviously the pricing is also out at the same time:

Model S 85 (basic) 750,000 YUAN (with VAT) -US$123,000
Model S P85 (basic) 871,800 YUAN (with VAT) -US$143,000, if with all the options(may vary): 1,087,700 YUAN -US$178,300

the email also requires customer to finish their final configuration confirmation before 2/3/2014. I assume that the first delivery might be in April!

What do these US$ amounts mean? They don't make sense to me.

sorry for the typo of the USD price, have corrected with following :

anyone know how this compares to other luxury cars in china? btw thanks for keeping us informed xdguo!!

Not entirely surprising, given the pricing strategy in Norway. Tesla could definitely have made more money, both per car and in total, by adding 10-20k USD on top of the prices here, but instead they added a fairly modest amount to the price.

I think the pricing strategy really reflects the long-term goals of Tesla. Tesla isn't in it for short term profits - it's all about building the market in preparation for Gen 3 and beyond. Getting cars on the road, building SC, building a sales and service organisation.

Hmm. They didn't need to double the price, but why not add some additional profit in? No one would have blinked at an extra 5-10k thrown in for their troubles. Don't they have to modify it for the market as well?

Either way, hope they've got their production constraints worked out...
