On the flipside: why would Tesla need to communicate the product, when the product sells itself? Word of mouth is extremely powerful, far more effective than stealerships. They're a drain on profts and not necessary for a brand like Tesla. And then there is new media like YouTube, reviews on the internet. You better not be one of those concern-bears who thinks Tesla has demand problem.

South African wines and spirits had a rough ride with the European producers suing (or threatening to) for using 'traditional' names like Champagne; Beaujolais; Port etc a few years ago.

This resulted in some clever puns and silly names like "Goats do Roam" (Cotes de Rhone) etc.

Humour goes a long way to alleviate irritation...…….

That's brilliant. If original name is no good, how about "TeslaKilla" instead ...

That is a high bar! What makes it so ludicrous? Let's say that the price decrease does not matter to 95% of buyers. They would have bought the car anyway. So effectively they sold 0.05 more cars per $1100 (I feel thats pretty generous). So which has more of an environmental affect: 1 new Tesla on the road or $22 000ish donation to a charity? Ironically, you could almost donate a Tesla for that :D.

That is all assuming of course that Tesla is demand constrained...
I made no comments on the curves. My only comment was on environmental impact. Do you even know why the founders throw their life away and work on a start-up that had almost no chance of surviving?

Tesla will only be a niche player unless it implements a good network of dealers or stores (the latter seems to not be possible) along with a positive communications strategy. It's not enough to have a superior product. You have to put the product in front of potential buyers and effectively communicate with them about it. Tesla doesn't do these things. Tesla cognoscenti are only a small portion of the car-buying public. The 3SR should be a good value, but I doubt that will be enough to support ongoing, good sales numbers. Tesla has accomplished a lot, but I think adjustments are needed for a successful future.
They have not needed to do this so far. Why would they when production was the limiting factor?

But yes, after the initial wave of SR demand is met they will need to start working on that. Fortunately the other makers are assisting with their own EV advertising. FWIW personal interaction is far more valuable than ads. If you know somebody who owns a Tesla that makes you more likely to buy one than seeing a commercial. The hurdle is that people know Ford, they know Audi. They have been buying that brand for decades or longer. Dealerships don't help sell cars. They are a legacy from the time before the internet. Now they only exist to do warranty service and move cars off the manufacturer's balance sheet onto their own.

Tesla is already outselling BMW in the US. Even without changing their ad model it seems likely they can do the same globally. That's not a bad starting point from which to really branch out.

So, Elon just posted, then deleted, a d*ck pic on Twitter. :(

(Prepare for a short-seller freakout...)

It all started when John Durant posted a 7-part tweet about what's going on with Jeff Bezos, and CC'ed Elon:

This ultimately led to Elon responding with a (now deleted) d*ck pic.

So... brace yourselves.

Uh... there are claims that Model 3 orders in China are "in the hundreds".

Seems unlikely but dropping the price and adding Autopilot don't instill confidence.

You can’t just come here and say ‘there are claims that...’. Provide sources or it’s just FUD. And if the sources are FUD, then, well...

Hopefully Elon’s contribution will not become a big deal. Ps John Durants PSA is worth a read.
