Impossible to say what percentage of production is going right now. But to fill up the lot in just a morning while actively shipping cars out tells me production is higher than 30%
Thirty percent might mean 30% of each shift--that's actually 60% of employees. I expect that 60% of employees could pump out quite a few cars. Anyway, I thought they were at the 30% level last week (presumably prepping the factory for safe return).

Elon has created attention. Now is the time to introduce Tesla's mission to the broader audience that is now "all eyes" on the situation.

It is a pattern. Get the attention. Pull the rug on any attack with debate wins in the eyes of the uninitiated, ie, the broader public.

Tesla counter one: Compare and contrast. Show Elon is purely committed to good, unlike anyone out there. Where is the F.U. to the real bad guys?

Elon has only purchased shares, he's never "cashed out." How many CEOs of major companies have done that?
Elon only invests in companies he's personally involved in. All his "eggs are in one basket," his companies. How many CEOs are this committed to the companies they run?
Elon's wealth is overwhelmingly in stock in his companies he runs of which he hasn't sold since inception. His primary reason even in owning his own stock is in preventing hostile take over or having the company hijacked by nefarious actors that what to destroy this mission. Which major CEOs have demonstrated such responsibility and commitment to their own mission?

Elon's wealth is designed to secure the future of the noble mission of his companies, not his gold plated toilet seat in 300 ft yacht. Who has done this not only in modern day business, but in history?

When Elon ruffles feathers, he does it out of this noble mission achievement, this is what needs to be communicated. When this is communicated, the trolls and naysayers look like really bad people and lose any cache they may have accrued by having Elon react to their statements/actions.

Tesla counter two: Explain the mission. Explain how it will create a healthier world, a cleaner world, a more responsible world, and ultimately the greatest economic uplift for the most people in history.

The future of energy is distributed and networked. It could be equivalent to "universal income" in earned income from the rooftop of your home or shared dwelling that supports individual freedom and control. The continued price decline of solar and energy storage that Tesla is significantly contributing to within its business model may allow all homes and businesses to aspire to "energy independence". Not only will blackouts be a thing of the past, since energy will be generated locally, but a localized market place will be created for sale of excess energy generated beyond need of personal requirements. Tesla is already deep in the midst of multiyear pilot programs to develop ways of "aggregating" distributed rooftop solar and energy storage for the benefit of all on the grid and where the homeowner or dwelling resident *gets paid* for that service among others. This "universal income" is actually sustainable as well as creating broader economic wealth across more people. It will "deconcentrate" wealth in a market driven way as potentially distribute political power among more people which ensures broader checks and balances on bad actors. Tesla is creating this environment by achieving its mission and encouraging others to compete with them in this direction thus *accelerating* the advent of sustainable energy production and consumption.

And the auto side complements as well as is an integrated feature of this acceleration. Teslas battery centered developments are fundamental to this. By improving energy storage tech, they are able to develop systems of mass production as well as work on how to recycle these materials(JB Straubel:)) in order to potentially eliminate large scale mining permanently related to energy production and consumption at some point. The implications to cost and pricing of virtually all products with recycling is mind boggling. This means cheaper products all of us, which intern increases our purchasing power across the entire population.

Tesla counter three: Health will increase, nature will heal.

Clean air, water, and soil is a magic elixir for outstanding immunities across all communities. Just these past three months alone, give just a small glimpse of that healthier future. A future that can be a combat multiplier against any and all viruses that may attack us.

Elon and Company can take advantage of this time to inform people of this. The attention is there, grab this opportunity to open their minds to what this fantastic and attainable reality.

lmao this thread really has just become a cheerleading section. IF Tesla HQ really does move to Texas don't expect more than 60% of employees to stay on board. It probably won't happen as it was probably just another impulsive move by Musk that he will eventually reconsider. Also shutting down Fremont when Tesla is production constrained and it would take a year+ to set up a NA factory is insane.

It is sad to watch the quality of this board degrade so fast. There used to be a lot of critical thinking sadly those posters are basically all gone. It was very apparent around the clearly stupid and impulsive "close all stores" and then "reopen all stores" was praised and anyone doing any critical thinking was heavily downvoted. Not everything is 4d chess.

Musk has been reckless and impulsive about his tactics regarding re-opening the factory because he frankly has been reckless and impulsive about the entire covid-19 crisis. It is all in the public record for everyone to see his downplaying, minimization, conspiracy theories and embrace of bad science to push a false narrative regarding C19. His inability to understand the severity of covid19, and frankly his disgusting embrace of conspiracy theories because of his absurd hubris is why he's gone with this shock and awe strategy because he's looking at the virus through a completely different and wrong lens than the people making these decisions. It is why he is more willing to accuse politicians of doing this on purpose as fascism, and threaten lawsuits than a more tactful public approach led with employee safety that doesn't turn people off (yes yes I know the cheerleaders will tell me that was on purpose and now Musk/Tesla will be some conservative hero so please save that nonsense)

Of course you are correct that many folks here assume Elon knows what he's doing, but you are assuming he doesn't, based on little or no evidence. None of us knows the full story of what happened between Tesla and the county, but Tesla's blog says the county heath authorities refused to return Tesla's calls and emails. If true, that argues against Elon's actions being "reckless and impulsive." Other than that, we know little. We can only see the results: the factory seems to be opening... now, not weeks from now, and Fox News is now cheerleading for Tesla.

I welcome critical thinking and criticism of all kinds, but show us your evidence.

Is he accepting questions? Because it will 100% come up if so.

he does from the press that calls in, after he speaks. Talking about budget shortfall and economy. Now about PPE, 11M masks distributed on Friday. Wrapping up quickly today. Questions next. He is saying public health guides this and each County is different.

Third question on Tesla. Gov Newsom understands that constructive discussions have been going on and he expects it to open next week! Guess he didn't check news this weekend.

Employee’s holding some ownership is the best corporate path imo.

it would behoove Elon to donate a substantial amount of his upcoming bonus to employees, particularly those without existing shares. Would go a long way towards getting him some good PR from the folks and at him currently and wouldn’t offend his “new” conservative friends either.

I would also like to see him do this. Kind of a "thank you" to his employees for riding this out.

Of course if he did, I can guarantee there would be some negative stories about him still being a billionaire and not giving enough.

Treasury Secretary Mnuchin's comments on CNBC today about the State of California's need to help Tesla reopen its Fremont factory (3:13)

"We're working with the states and most of the states are all cooperating a must to say I agree with Elon Musk is one of the biggest employers and manufacturers in California and California should prioritize doing whatever they need to do to solve those health issues so that he can open quickly and safely where they're gonna find as he's threatened he's moving his production to a different state."

No response yet from California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Sigh... I miss you, @KarenRei:

Also reflected in +6% for ARKG itself.

That's the only thing we are buying with monthly loose change, after $1010 to local food locker. Tesla already 77% of portfolio. ETF now up 28 percentish since January.

Edit: Always a guess predicting the future. Given ARK focus and track record with Tesla, my BET is one of the company's Cathy is watching will eventually come up with a treatment and/or vaccine. Note, BET, not advice. I am fully prepared to lose all $45,000 of this.

Only problem with that is he can't. He can't do anything with those shares, besides selling enough to cover related taxes, for 5 years after they vest.

Partial disagreement: Workers do not have the resources comparable to the company to represent their interests. So trade unions would make sense. I am not convinced that Tesla treated all of its workers fairly all the time. I have an extremely low opinion on the UAW on the other hand. Trade unions should represent the particular interest of the employees in the partnership. The adversarial position that often tries to destroy the company hardly helps the interest of the workers.

Not an expert, but it appears to me Germany has a much better working relationship when unions are represented on company boards. Harmony, not conflict is the rule. Shocked the conscience of some pols in confederate states.

Newsom continuing to take a hands-off approach on the matter it seems.

Either that or he's technically right and being a bit childish about it.
