Test drive vehicles for sale?

I noticed on the website today that certain test drive vehicles could be available for immediate delivery. While I've sent a message to Tesla regarding this, I wonder if anyone here has looked into it recently as well.

I would have to imagine that they would be a bit abused... but, they could be a good/great value if they re-detailed prior to delivery/acceptance.

those are "orphan" car. Meaning that customers place an order, configure their car, but didn't take delivery of it.

So if you are not looking for a special configuration it could be a quick way to get one.

I haven't heard back from Tesla yet (I may send another email on Friday directly to Reservations), but while I am sure you are correct ... the line specifically mentions test drive cars. I think that these cars will have some sort of discount while the orphan cars would be closer to full price.

I got a call back from chicago Store manager and she said that thay have orpaned cars and price is the same. I said website says test cars so arent those demo cars, she said no these are cars that customers did not take delivery of.

Got a reply from Stephanie (HQ Product Specialist)

The Test Drive vehicles we have available are pretty limited at this time. If you could let me know what kind of car you prefer, color, battery size, interior options, I can find something close to what you are looking for and we can discuss pricing and time frame then. Full disclaimer, this is a new process (to sell test drive vehicles) so it will take me a bit of time to get the perfect car for you. Also, in terms of time frame, when were you looking to receive the car by?

Your vehicle purchased will have a NEW vehicle warranty in tact – as these cars have never been registered yet, you can also apply for the $7500 Federal Tax Credit and any state incentives. It will come with a full review and full refurbishment.

You’ll get a price break dependent on mileage. Therefore, cars will be at full price minus a 50 cents per mile discount. 2000 miles at $1000 off, for instance.
We have a nice collection of Performance vehicles, of the Blue/Pearl White variety with a mix of Tan or Black interiors. These all have Tech, Sound Studio packages.

That's up from the .50 per mile mentioned previously. I suppose if everything in it is refreshed and it's just the battery/motor that has "wear", that's a decent enough discount.
Not really. Most of these have every option, therefore unless one wants a fully loaded car, it will most likely be cheaper to just order a new car just the way you want it.

Elon announced yesterday that loaner cars would be available to buy at a discount of 1%/month old and $1/mile. I assume that test drive cars would now be available for the same deal.

But not the current crop of test drive cars, which were the first ones off the line and really aren't up the normal production standards and also went through the GetAmped circuit.
