Well to be fair, the "bundle of wires" upgrade is essentially a hack that allows the car to functionally use a CCS charger but possibly disregard some thermal safeguards (as I understand how the upgrade is performed). The bundle of wires include fixed value resistors which take the place of thermistors; resistors which change their value according to the ambient temperature. This introduces some deviations in the how the temperature of the charge port is monitored - which is to say, it doesn't do it accurately. The Gen4 charge port ECU is normally used with its associated Gen4 charge port and main power cabling going to the traction battery. Since it's not that feasible for an owner to swap out this entire assembly, the upgrade that was developed here fools the ECU into thinking it's connected to the charge port hardware for which it was designed for.

I've been keeping an eye on this CCS 1 adapter product page on Tesla's shop, and was expecting it to be available soon for M3/MY - the product page had previously said available mid-2023, then late 2023, then January 2024, then end of January 2024 - and now it says nothing. I tried scheduling service in the app and the appointment was rejected, and they had no idea on a timeline as for when it would be available.

Has anyone heard anything else?

The product page never said it would be available at those times. It said to check back then to see if it was available at those times.

For a little while it showed a different price for a Model 3/Y retrofit, so we can only guess that they are getting close to making it available. (It would be really crappy if they open the Supercharger network to Ford owners before they make the NACS/CCS retrofit available for Model 3/Y owners.)

Would be nice if folks submitted https://shop.tesla.com/product/ccs-combo-1-adapter to Internet Archive: Wayback Machine on a semi-regular basis. There aren't a ton of snapshots at Wayback Machine for late 2023 and early 2024.

https://archive.is/https://shop.tesla.com/product/ccs-combo-1-adapter has even fewer snapshots. Submit URLs to https://archive.is/.

Looks like Tesla has officially enabled the CCS retrofit for Model 3/Y

The price is back on the Tesla page

and according to this reddit post, someone has already made reservation for it

Model Y never had the same charge port compatibility problem that early Model 3 vehicles do. If your North American Model Y is not "CCS Enabled", you can swap the charge port ECU with one that does support CCS and it will just work after you deploy the firmware in Service Mode.

The web store still says "Service Retrofit" is only available for Model S and Model X after I log in with my account which has a 2018 Model 3 linked. So, it is somewhat conflicting information. I will wait for confirmation that early Model 3's are eligible since I'm not in that much of a rush to get it on our car.

I'm curious to know if the retrofit portion of the kit can be purchased directly from the service center without the adapter. If anyone obtains the part number on the harness, please let us know!
