The Model S cells don't have the right voltage characteristics to match up with the old Roadster PEMs. They had to use some 3rd party cells for the r80 pack.
Remember that, unless you only expect about 4 years out of your battery, like cheap Chinese consumer products, the BMS and the batteries need to be controlled very carefully. When you have 6831 cells that all need to be carefully controlled, this gets very challenging.

Sad to wave goodbye to VIN #209, but at this point I've sunk way too much $$$ into her to justify spending another $30k on a new battery. I'm very disappointed these R80 batteries are failing.
It’s going to a new owner in style!
Another nice media coverage for vin#209!
Good luck 🍀

The article is wrong on most of its statements and adds a terribly negative pessimistic slant on much what it does get right. Clearly, the old auto rags still don't understand what Tesla and the Roadster were, are, or represent.
I mean, come on the Leaf was nowhere to be seen when the Roadster emerged.

💯 agreed, but as they say, “No news is bad news.” It’s good to see these cars make media coverage.

It's been some time since I've poked my head in this thread. I was considering a roadster a few years back, but when prices broke 6 figures, I didn't check as often. I see a few recent listings for sub 100k and a few posts about the used roadster market softening a bit, but guessing these recent listings will still break 100k. Gruber has a bunch of listings well into the 100's. Can anyone enlighten me on the disconnect between these auction prices and the prices on Gruber's site? Are they more garage queen/higher end models?

Here we go, any guesses on final bid?🤞
1.5 roadster vin #292 now listed at Mecum Auction Glendale 2023.
Sold previously at auction and listed for sale in this thread👆. I’m confused with the #292/300??! Not #292/500??!
