Total loss [Is this totaled?]

Wife hydroplaned into a ditch . No airbags deployed or actually any alerts. I drove the car into the tow truck. I only noticed garbled sound out speakers. And blue liquid leaking from the front bottom I assume was windshield washer fluid but who knows.

What are the chances this is a total loss?

It depends on how much structural damage there is underneath the car. In my personal opinion I think it will be a write off.

Liquid is probably battery/powertrain coolant. Were the tires worn out or did the hydro planing result from high speed? Might be a total loss depending on how the frame is bent.

Tires were fine. She is not the best driver and the only reason she was driving my car was because we sold her Vehicle 2 days prior in anticipation of her 2023 Prius Arriving this week. I think a combination of her not used to the speed of the car and she fought the cars safety features and over corrected. At least thats what summize from the Tesla Cam footage.

Silver lining that tyres where good, as bald tires (or speed) might have been an issue with insurance, depending on insurance terms.

Given recent events, I'd say it's totaled, and sometimes that's just fine, as often they are never the same after.
Might even be worth more as parts than whole, so insurance company isn't losing as much as you'd think? (just guessing).
I don't know what year that is, but 2023+ has 'comfort' suspension and with our new Model Y it's 100,000x better.
Not as good as my X, but it is... a damn good suspension.

Seriously, my wife's 2018 and 2019 Model 3 suspension made me hate the car. (So much so I also had a 2019 3 and sold it).
With the 2023, it's a dang good car

Consider that Tesla’s superior anti rollover, lower center of gravity, probably was a positive safety factor in this accident

What type of insurance covers this? Do you have comprehensive? There's no "other party" that might be liable. It's just bad circumstances.

I have State Farm. This is still covered under the Collision policy from my understanding not considered a Comprehensive claim. Same as if you were to drive off the road and crash into a tree or something.

Have what appeared to be less damage which cost more than $8500 and put the car in the shop for a month. But you never know until they start tearing it apart.

I anticipate that once the vehicle reaches a Tesla Certified shop and is properly dismantled, there will likely be some additional supplements filed.

IMO no way for $8500. My friend had a relatively smaller bumper damage and was quoted $6500 today.

Judging by the rocks the vehicle landed on, I can’t believe there was no battery damage. Was this confirmed? The way to total a Tesla is to damage the battery pack. /s Adds a cool $25K right away.

The moral of the story is - internet opinion about accident damage is precisely WORTHLESS.
Even though folks keep asking.
The only opinion that matters is that of your insurance company!
