A slightly late Christmas gift

P85D ordered October 22nd and today I was given a delivery date of December 27th to Tampa, Florida
Silver, 19 inch silver wheels, tech, ultra hi fi, dual chargers, air shocks, pano, black 2nd gen. leather seats,
piano black decor. A late, but welcome gift to put under the tree or maybe it would go better in the garage.

Higgs,

A buddy and I ordered the 12C the day Tampa got their franchise. My buddy was stolen by The Collection a month later when they got their McLaren franchise but he did not tell me. To make a long story short, Tampa "lost" my order so when it came time to deliver, my buddy got his while McLaren was unable to make things right with me.

I realize now that I got lucky. My buddy Lemmon Law'd his car because of all the initial issues with the car so I dodged that bullet. I'm now driving the exact same car I would have ordered (Silver/Black but I probably would not have ordered the carbon brakes) with 4500 miles on it for $100K less than I would have paid. I'll call that dodging bullet number two.

How does a dealer misplace an order? Didn't you have to put down a considerable deposit? I completely believe you just to be clear. I'm just bewildered that a business could operate that way. At that price point they probably sell 1 unit a month? Or less?

I updated the comments section of the spreadsheet yesterday - VIN 64272 - expected completion week of 11/24 and expected delivery in Houston week of 12/8.

Things are moving right along...

Mike

So they are definitely not building these things in VIN number order, though that's probably not a surprise to anyone.

I'm VIN number 64227.

I called my DS yesterday, to ask about a couple of things, and at the end of the call I said "you probably don't have anything new to tell me about my delivery date yet, right?", and he said that actually he did. He informed me that my car should be finished the week of December 15, and should be delivered to me in upstate NY the week of December 22. I said something about how that sounded awfully fast to be making the cross-country trip, but he said that's what they did, weather permitting.

So of note is the fact that my VIN is a little lower than NOLA_Mike's, but my car will be finished about three weeks later. Also of note is that while my car, supposedly, is going to make it from California all the way to upstate NY in a week, NOLA_Mike's car is going to take twice as long to get from California to Texas. Perhaps Thanksgiving is a factor in that. Or maybe my car is just going to be faster! :)

I just looked at your entry on the spreadsheet. You have a grey interior. I was told the Tan/Grey interiors would be slightly delayed. I originally had a 11/24 EOL date, but it moved to 12/1, believed to be because of the tan next-gen seats.

That could certainly be it. I'm in no way complaining. I just thought if people were thinking they were building them in roughly VIN order, that this was interesting, and that they would have factored in the interior color delays, etc., when assigning the VINs. I also ordered somewhat later than a lot of people, ordering on 10/24 and confirming on 10/28, so I'm sure that's a big part of why my car is coming closer to the end of December. I actually wouldn't be surprised if the date gets pushed back, based on it taking longer than a week to make it from California. The car is going to need to be delivered to the service center where they are going to need to prep it and get it inspected, and then get it to me, at the earliest, the next day. So I am skeptical that I'll have it a week after it leaves California, but we will see.

Not sure that's any factor Andrew. My VIN ends in 63084 and I ordered next-gen seats in black, yet my DS says that production is planned for the first week of December.

@Mike, congrats on the early delivery date! I'm surprised to hear a 11/24 production week date, but that's great news. Please update the spreadsheet when your "My Tesla" page changes to IN PRODUCTION (same for everyone please )

Tesla does seem able to transport vehicles quickly - ESPECIALLY at the end of the quarter.

Wondering if anyone plans to pick up at the Fremont factory and drive it cross-country...sadly I only live 10 miles or so from Fremont...
This is a bad idea for an out of state buyer. They pay the 10% or so CA State sales tax and then re-pay it in their home-state when registering it. And still pay the $1000+ delivery charge to pick up at Fremont. Someone with a lot of time and money surely could do this as an adventure.

I agree picking up in CA and paying the 10% sales tax is a bad idea. This is why many out-of-state buyers take delivery in Nevada. However, out of state buyers don't double pay sales tax. With proper documentation that they paid tax in CA, that amount is deducted from their state sales tax; the buyer is responsible for the difference. Since CA likely has the highest tax rate, the net result is the buyer would not pay sales tax in their home state.

Thanks - I would hope that is correct. Then they are paying a small premium rather than large. Next time I am at my DMV, I will ask them. I would love to pick up a Model 3 at the factory and drive it cross-country to the east coast.

Just talked to my specialist. My car is scheduled to go into production first week of December, delivery first or second week in December.

That's exactly the same answer I got from my DS. What are the last 5 digits of your VIN? Probably doesn't matter, but I didn't see you on the master spreadsheet Andrew started (see page 1 of this thread).
Also, are you taking delivery in Fremont or a service center in the peninsula?
