Hey all - would appreciate your input here.

I'm considering picking up a 2018 Model X from Carvana. Obviously trading in at the same time can save some tax $$. I currently drive a 2015 Model S, with 67K miles. I've upgraded to MCU2 and installed the OEM center console. Carvana is offering $32K. Deal or No Deal?

Try Tesla. I got $20K higher than Carvana. Yes,$20K. But Tesla might be asking $20K more for the car.

You probably won’t get a dime more for your MCU2 upgrade. Or console.

That might be a good deal. But be sure to shop around.

Best Way would be to sell it Privately. You will get $40k Easily.

Obviously trading in at the same time can save some tax $$.

Just to clarify, this varies state-to-state. Some allow you to reduce the taxable value if you remove registration from another vehicle (i.e. you sell your old vehicle via private party in a separate transaction), some reduce only if you trade-in on the same purchasing transaction at a dealer, and some do not allow you to reduce at all (cough CA cough).
