I guess the verdict is that it's the HomeLink box. At least until I can get more pictures of it...

Looks a little big for the Homelink unit, but that would be my best guess.

If they had centered the radar, then it would have been blocked by license plate and rendered useless.

The license plate is mounted well below the radar. Having it off center may help the radar figure out what objects in front of the car are.
 
All I did was Google automotive homelink and the device is rectangular but smaller than the size of a deck of cards

Does it really look too big for Homelink? I thought most garage door openers were in that 392MHz range and probably do require a transmitter around that size, especially since there's multiple antennas they need for the various garage door opener frequencies.
