Puget Sound S Owners: where did you put your GoodToGo Pass?

I am a new Model S owner and have read/heard conflicting reports about whether windshield passes will work with the Model S windshield. The last thing I heard was from a delivery specialist, who said that if you put your pass on the passenger side of the windshield, near the rear-view mirror, it should work fine. Anybody tried that yet? What works for you?

Anybody tried that yet? What works for you?

If you don't need to switch it back and forth, ours is inside a plastic bag zip tied to the crash bar behind the nose cone. No problems in the last several months.

Any reason you cannot attach it to the outside of your windshield? What about attaching it to the Pano roof? Has anyone had success there?

I have held it up to the roof and it did not register. I just set mine on the floor under the rear window and it works fine there.

What kind of pass did you use? I got one of the permanent passes and have tried using it in multiple locations with no success. However, I don't know if that is because I didn't remove the paper backing from the pass. Do you need to do that to activate it?

I got the switchable one that shows a red and green window on the backside. Leave it in toll mode most of the time, though switch it if I know I am going to have passengers.

I have a similar Faraday cage problem with the parking gate at my condo. My solution was to reveal the transponder (a thick credit-card-sized package) via the sun roof. I have the mesh-netting shade insert that filters overhead sunlight, so I simply stuck the transponder to the middle of the netting with hook-side velcro. With the sun roof closed, no response; with the roof 30% open, it triggers the overhead antenna opening the rolling gate.

Anyone has any updates on a good solution for a Model X? I just took a trip this weekend on 405 and tried having it on the right corner of my rear windshield. 3 days after trip nothing on the Good to Go Website so far so don't know whether it worked yet. I will post any update once i know

I am not sure if the X is the same as the S, however I found in my S that the black patch just to the right of the rearview mirror works perfectly for me. I get 100% success with tolls since I put it there.

I put the pass in the hand hold of the driver side door just below the edge of the window with the pass sitting vertically. I regularly commute on the 405 HOT lanes between Kirkland and Bellevue and it works perfectly. Also it works fine going over the 520 bridge as well. I know it's not regulation as it's not mounted on my windshield, but it does work.

i have an X and I concur.

The black area to the right of the rear-view-mirror has been reported by many people as areas not covered by the metalized coating. Not all cars have that, and even cars manufactured days apart may be different (I've seen cars older and newer than mine that had it, I don't). That said, in my experience the best way to tell however is to look at your windshield from the outside on a sunny day. You can see where the metalized layer is and make sure your Good2Go pass is where there is no coating. Here is what it looks like on my current car. You can see my pass too, it works well there (it's not a flex pass, just a regular one).

Thanks all for the responses . Gives me some good options to try.

Also, now over a week from my trip on 405, I have not seen any charges to my account with the flex pass placed on the rear windshield, all the way to the right, about halfway from top to bottom. I may just leave it there unless I start to get charges. I will post an update if I find it doesn't work here.

I also contact WSDOT and their recommendation was the get a license plate transponder, but then when you travel HOV you have to email WSDOT within 45 days of the trip to request a refund. Very annoying... So glad to see that others have found a few options that work.

I've got a late 2016 MX and my sticker style G2G pass works just fine placed on front windshield just below the forward facing cameras.

On our 2017 (delivered end of Dec'16) MS, it works anywhere we tested it (tested it at the Good2Go center). Mounted a flex pass at the roofline to the right of the mirror. I seems Tesla removed/changed the windshield coating in late cars.

same here - toll tag beeps fine in lower left drivers corner of winshield. dec 2016 model s I was skeptical if a radar detector works but seems to pick up K and Ka fine (still testing). I mount mine with velcro to the dash as windsheild mount not allowed in CA

Quickest test is to drive up to a K-band door sensor at a local supermarket. Note signal strength while the source is directly in front of you. Then stick it out the window (or sunroof) pointing in the same direction, note signal strength. With the old coating, the signal strength as reported by Valentine one was cut down by 80% or more (went from 100 %to 20%).

hey guys, I just asked the Seattle SC and they were firm that the best place to put the pass is at the top edge of the window for a model X. this conflicts with what I have read about not placing it behind the metalized tint coating, then I have also heard that on some cars the coating is left off the very top part of the windshield. can anyone confirm that a flexpass can go at the top of the X windshield. my X is a 12/2016, 90D
