Ways to surprise wife with Model 3

So we have 2 Model 3 reservations. His and hers. With invites.

I have been telling my wife we should wait for AWD and later build, but she had been bugging me to go forward to have for the summer. I went and pulled the order trigger on her color and wheels without telling her. Pearl White, 19" wheels. No question on what she wants as we have been through the colors and the wheel options a few times.

Last few weeks she has gone quiet on asking me when we will order the car. I guess she figures we will wait. We also have another car lease that ends it August so I have convinced her it makes sense to wait.

So today I got the call the car will be delivered May 10th! I want to surprise her and am looking for ideas on how. At first I thought I would pick up and drive home and leave in the driveway. This is kind of boring. I could probably get her to go unknowingly to the Tesla store with me, but as soon as we drive in she will know whats up. I looked online and many ideas are around giving a small model car at Christmas or on a Birthday and surprising with the real one in the driveway. This won't work as it is not Christmas or her Birthday.

So looking for some ideas. Something not too complicated but will leave her completely surprised when she finds out it is hers.

Tell her that you got a special invite for a test drive on May 10th and you think you should go for it as not everyone got an invite. Tell her that they are asking for both of you to be there so Tesla can get feedback. Make sure your sales folks are in on it. Have them go through the delivery process saying it’s for a test drive and then at the end just before driving, have them tell her to take her car home and enjoy!

Mother's Day is May 13. Take her to lunch, and when you come out, go to the Model 3 (parked in the right place in advance), and open the door for her, and say to "Get in!"

If she is not a mother, that might not work, unless you could do something similar for your mother or hers, then return to the Model 3, etc.

Another idea is to have someone pose as a package delivery guy, ring the bell, ask for your wife and say there is a package she must sign for. He has her sign a bogus form and then points to the "package" sitting in the driveway or at the curb.

However you do it, be sure to have someone positioned to take photos and/or video!

For the comments on mothers day.....

She is a mother but not sure I could even wait the 3 days after delivery to give to her! Also, I hope to drive the Model 3 to my mother on the 13th with her.

I like the Tesla test drive story....but let's see what other ideas come up.

Then, you can try opening the door, surprised that it actually opened for you. Then, you convince her its a sign that the car wants you to take it for a quick test drive. The "real owner" will never know. That should give her a charge. Of course, you put her name as the car name on the display.

She would likely enjoy the delivery process too, so let her experience that. If it was my wife I would get her permission to blindfold her for a surprise date. Take her to the service center after arranging a surprise with the employees there. Walk her in and take off the blind fold. Let the delivery specialist break the news while you capture her reaction on video. Then enjoy the process.

You could pretend that you are going to teach her about the nearby charging network (how to use it/where to find them) so she will be comfortable using them in the future. Jump in your current car to go to a charging station where you previously put the car near it. Insert your ending here___________...

Or set up a stolen car ploy like... pretend that you get a stolen car call from the cops while in earshot of her (hide your car or prepare to have friend hide it). You go to pick up the new M3 at the police station with her while she is thinking it is your old car.

Show or pretend a missed package delivery. Go to post office etc. maybe involve counter person to give key card to her (maybe in a small box) with the car sitting in the lot.

Pretend that you found a too good to pass up deal on the net that you bid for and won on a completely different style car. She might be ticked so you must somehow get her in the car and go see or trust a friend to bring it around the block for you.

Does your wife like surprises? Sometimes it feels like a power/control game to the one being surprised.

She might enjoy the anticipation just as much as you do.

I bought my wife an inventory S100D for her birthday. She was in the loop for every step. Except she doesn’t want to know the cost. She was just as thrilled as could be when she saw it in the driveway.

Nearly 6 months later, she loves it even more.

You also can be up-front about the HPWC installation.

Looks like your wife and my wife will have the same cars very soon. Bring the Model 3 to a mall or a nice restaurant with a valet parking, uber home and then later you go on a date to the mall/restaurant. Once you guys are finished, let the valet bring the Model 3 (that's if you trust the valet).

Half the fun is the delivery experience!! The test drive idea is a good one. You could always just say "Hey, I called the store and they have several waiting for delivery in different colors" And tell her you're undecided and want to go look at real as opposed to pictures online cars.

While her head is turned run away and fetch the car from around the corner and drive it to your driveway.

Then hand her the Model 3 keycard.

Bonus: Somehow setup Christmas tree in living room before she wakes up.

If you want any help making your decision by vote, I would go with either idea from 9erDog, or TheRealM3. If you go with 9erDog's idea, after convincing her on the special invite story and the reason for it, arrange for the sales team to do a walkthrough of the Model 3 in a completely different colour car so that she doesn't 't suspect that it has anything to do with the delivery of her car, keeping the deception story intact. Then when the walkthrough is done, the sales team could explain that your test drive is ready, leading both of you to another area where a white, "19 wheel M3 sits waiting complete with a large bow(gift wrap) on the hood. Get ready for a shocked look, possible a small tear, followed by a big XO!!

If you go with TheRealM3, same idea, just have the valet waiting in a convenient place where you will leave the mall/restaurant with a big bow on the hood. IMO, since she will also get to experience the fun of delivering the 2nd Model 3, I think the element of surprise will make the first Model 3 more memorable for her. Everyone likes surprises, especially a women in love. Good luck!

I would be worried about screwing up the surprise so just wake up that morning and say "come on honey, we're going to pick up your new Model 3 today". That way there's no messing-around and she gets to be excited for at least a little bit before getting the car. She'll be excited while getting ready and also on the drive there. Or, better-yet, tell her after breakfast...in case she's #hangry.

You need this to go-well and this is the safest bet in my opinion.
