I an not an owner yet and I am weighing the benefits of new stock vs CPO purchase. One of the questions that has come to mind was inspired by the upcoming change to free use of the supercharger network. I intend to travel extensively hope to avail myself of use of supercharging while away from my home range. I understand that purchases after Jan 1 and delivery after Apr 1 will be limited to 1000mi free charging each year. Is that correct? Can anyone tell me for sure whether this will apply to CPO purchases of vehicles after the above stated deadlines or will those older vehicles continue to enjoy free charging?

Unfortunately no one knows the answer to this. My current CPO sales adviser gave me the distinct impression I need to buy my CPO before Jan 1 to get free unlimited supercharging, but the sales guys aren't always the best sources of info.
I can't think of any reason why they'd offer free unlimited charging to CPO cars but not new cars. They only reason they don't yank it form existing cars is that they can't since it's a feature purchased with the car, but when they sell it as a CPO, they can remove that feature since they're not taking it away from an existing owner just as the can and did add unlimited supercharging for the S60 CPO cars when the original owners hadn't purchased that option.

Hi. I think it is highly likely that Tesla will disable free supercharging before they sell on CPO cars manufactured in 2016 or before. In case people here think that Tesla wouldn't come up with such an idea, let me remind you that Elon talked about unlocking software limited 60 kWh cars after people trade those in.
Thanks, sorka, that makes sense. So that could, at some point, provide incentive to buy direct from owners and non-Tesla sales agents although I suspect most Tesla owners would trade up to another Tesla rather that sell outright.

I just contacted the regional CPO specialist for South Florida. Last Friday I pulled the trigger on a 2013 MS P85 and today I inquired about the Supercharging status as the vehicle was originally sold with Supercharging enabled.
He stated that since I ordered before the end of this year, I will have Supercharging included. That seems to be inline with what is being done for Supercharging for new vehicles.
As another bonus...my car could/should be in South Florida the end of next week. Hooray! I know that there could still be cosmetic issues that the local showroom may need to resolve.

FWIW, I recently asked this exact question to my {CPO} pre-owned sales advisor. Here is a direct cut & paste from his emailed response:
"All 2013-2016 CPOs will have supercharging for life, if purchased through Tesla CPO, regardless of when they are purchased. No rush to commit based on the new supercharging program, which should work out better for your schedule if you want to get the car late winter/early spring 2017."
I'm not purporting this to be accurate -- but it is the answer I got directly from Tesla. And of course I'm keeping his email handy.

I'm pretty sure the original wording was "for the life of the car." However Tesla probably will do whatever they deem appropriate when a car is traded in. Unfortunately only time will tell for sure.
