Sadly Tesla/Musk hubris didn't just appear with the X program. And I don't expect it's been "cured". It's both the reason for Tesla's amazing successes and significant mistakes. It's created the company/customer feedback loop for continuous development where significant refreshes are pretty much an annual event.
BMW owners of larger models accept as normal that smaller BMWs are quicker - but when it comes to Tesla, we're not talking normal.
Tesla promotes and we expect the impossible as the new normal (where is the Model Y? Why isn't the Roadster 3.0 rollout happening faster?).
In such an environment, I can't see S owners being as relaxed as BMW owners - "so the 3 is quicker and more efficient than the S? Meh, whatever. I'm happy with my S"
We are one half of the feedback loop. We are a part of the problem.
