With so many quality issues after delivery - how many people are actually happy with their car?

Just trying to get a feel of how many people are happy with their cars after delivery. I'm about to take delivery at the end of this month and am thinking hard whether I should cancel and wait until next year or whenever the quality issues have been improved.
Picked up MY Dual Motor LR with 20” Induction Wheeis In Deep Blue Metallic this past Thursday 6/18. Awesome car. Great experience. Delivery specialist talked with my wife while I went thru the checklist over at the Littleton, CO Tesla. Couldn’t be happier with the experience and the car. Minor issues like the plastic cover on the rear seat folder popped off while checking it. Looks like clip was broken. Stays in place but pulls out when using. Seal on roof glass folded under where it meets windshield on passenger side. Heated seats didn’t all seem to work in rear but I’m checking them again this weekend. Delivery specialist said all their cars get checked multiple times. No gap issues and no major paint issues. Like I said couldn’t be happier. I had to get real picky. Tart will fix all the minor stuff when I bring it in on July 2nd. There was no reason to refuse delivery on my car. They texted me early in week to schedule a pickup. They had it on the lot already. Had to speak to the Operations Manager to schedule pickup as app would not let me choose next day and I was working this weekend. She scheduled me for Thursday as she said she could make it happen as they were delivering a large number of cars. Their lot was full. I checked out other cars while waiting for my paperwork and they all looks in great shape. Awesome experience. Have owned 3 BMWs in the past and this car blows then away. Was currently driving a Nissan Rogue cause was tired of the maintenance trips and costs for the BMWs. Everyone that sees it loves it, especially the deep blue color and black induction rims. Rides great. Installed my Gen 3 Wall Charger last night and it chArged to 90% within 7 hours as I was at 124 miles left. Had been using a regular plug till now and my charging rate got 5.5 X faster with the wall charger. Plus it looks real cool in the garage. I can honestly say the Tesla center in Littleton, CO has their stuff together and wouldn’t give out a car like some of them described here. Looking forward to years of awesome driving. It’s a pleasure to sit in such an awesome, beautiful great car. Use it fine work everyday and will be using it fir a lot of pleasure driving too!

I’m coming from BMW and Lexus so my standards were high. Picked up my Blue model Y PUP in March. VIN 1xxx. I knew Tesla had horrible QC plus being first edition car so I was ready. So...

- few panels misaligned
- steering wheel wasn’t center
- tail light condensation
- rear seat panel not staying on
- window seal leak causing wind noise
- backseat not automatically folding

Tesla service resolved all those issues except for rear seat not folding as they are pending parts.

overall I am happy and my wife loves the car.

the only complaint I have is that the paints clear coat is super fragile compared to my other cars. Not sure why but I’m
Getting paint correction and ceramic coating soon, and probably PPF, so that will be resolved.

re: steering wheel not being centered: Did the SC specify how they fixed the issue? Mine is going to service next week for same issue. Did you also notice an occasional, vibration for a second or two in the steering wheel, usually when accelerating/decelerating?

I'm old and have bought more than my share of new cars in my lifetime. I have never scrutinized panel gars until I started reading about these issues on the Tesla forums. Could every one of the cars I owned previously been perfect? I supposed so, but I doubt it.

I had a Prius for years and one time I read about the white bumper (plastic) being a little different shade of white than the rest of the car (metal). Sure enough, after looking at it, I could see a slight difference. Not noticeable until I was looking for it.

Certainly, Tesla has its issues, but if you look at anything long enough, you'll start seeing problems (just ask my wife). With thousands of us standing there with a delivery checklist in one hand and a cell phone camera in the other, things will inevitably be found that otherwise would have gone unnoticed.

Hold Tesla accountable for their problems, but if you want perfection, you might be disappointed. I never brought a delivery checklist to a Toyota dealer, but I'm sure if I had, I would have found problems.

I’m 60+ have owned many cars including BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, Infinitis and Lexus. I have been happy with all but none have been perfect. When I hear “... the car looked great but then the detail shop showed me all of the problems...” i think the issue is the owner not the car. If you look at everything under a microscope you will always find issues. I’m picking up my MY on Monday after owning a M3 for 2 years. I hope and expect the vehicle will give me as much driving pleasure and issue free ownership experience i have enjoyed with my Tesla thus far.

I took delivery yesterday and overall I’m very pleased. Was the car perfect? No, but it wasn’t bad either. I may be more forgiving than some. I didn’t check panel gaps with a micrometer. :p Just checked them visually and all but one are good and that one I can live with just want to make sure it won’t be a problem. Everything I found that I really care about can be fixed. I’ve attached my list of everything that I’ve found. It really isn’t much compared to previous lists that some other have posted.

1.Paint imperfection top edge of right front quarter panel. Dirt particle in paint.
2. Scratches in left rear door glass. One scratch in exterior, other show in bright light.
3. Hinges on driver and left rear door have scratches in bracket. Need paint to prevent rust.
4. Gap in panels between A pillar and front quarter panel. Are they in spec? Is there any water intrusion issue?
5. Rear hatch not aligned, differences in sides. Close to aligned on left but misaligned on right.
6. Headliner trim not behind hatch trim, should be tucked into rubber hatch gasket/trim.
7. Left rear interior door panel scratched in lower front area near storage area.
8. Rear seat is not even or aligned. Needs adjustment.
9. Rear seat release for left side releases all seats.
10. Center rear seat rear cover piece loose.

Oh good grief. You should definitely cancel and drive your current ICE vehicle, which, I assume, passed your stringent tests. You are totally set up to find things wrong with any new vehicle you buy, particularly a Tesla. Save yourself the grief. And stop asking everyone else to make your decision for you. Thousands upon thousands of us are happy with our Tesla. But you won't be, so don't go there. Enjoy what you have.

Just like any other car, needed wheel realignment and center the steering column. I don’t have any vibrations.

Picked up my S a couple months ago, the 3 is two years old. Never even thought about doing a checklist, cars were in excellent shape and even after washing don't find any blemishes. All my Teslas have been wonderful (this is my fourth), NO COMPLAINTS. Best. Car. Ever!!! I feel that the complaints some are voicing are rare, and folks should refuse delivery unless they feel that the Service Center will take care of them, but it's not like its the end of the world. I suspect that Tesla has the data of the percentage of people with problems, but it's not likely it's a big deal, and of course, we will never know.

Just picked mine up in Richmond VA. Mfg month 6/20. Black/white interior, Midnight Silver LRAWD. Looked long and hard for the defects noted in so many previous posts. Only thing I could find so far is right side of frunk not perfectly aligned. Would not have noticed had I not looked for it. No rear seat alignment issues, no paint issues, no seat indents, and pretty what I expected. Hopefully after the bad press on some of the 5/20 productions, they started to pay more attention. Screen did shut down on two occasions while I was in park and rebooted. Not sure if because of camera calibration. If it continues, will note as issue.

That's me too!!!

I dont normally post stuff .. but I feel new MY people's concern.
I think I brought about 3 different check lists with me when I picked mine up :)

I picked up my new model Y (14XXX) at the local Tesla dealer on yesterday/Thurs.(I placed the order on Mothers Day)
After reading all the QC issues people had seen with their Y, my excitement in picking it up, turn to a little concern.
I must say it looked great! No panel gaps and the paint job was great! The only issue we had were that they forgot to put on the tow hitch and the FM radio was not working. They looked at the radio for about 30 minutes and needed to order a part. We will be getting it serviced for the hitch and radio next week. They also forgot floor mats and the spare tire patch kit, they got them right away for me. The whole process was very smooth and the Tesla people there were extremely polite.

I have had the car for about 24 hours now and I LOVE IT!!!

They forgot floor mats, as in, it was supposed to come with floor mats? Mine didn't come with any. So should I be contacting them about this??

Elon disagrees with you. In fact he took the time to tell Tesla employees they need to do a better job of putting the cars together so there weren’t so many rectification issues.
You're conflating two different matters. That Elon put out that missive is a good thing. That does not negate the fact that other manufacturers proffer imperfect vehicles, nor does it imply that most MYs have significant problems (e.g., needing a body shop or extended stay in a SvC).

I’m not conflating anything and I never said most Model Y’s have problems. I’ve ordered a Y and look forward to getting it. I was at a Tesla location yesterday that had six Y’s and they all looked good except for the charging doors being misaligned on two. All car manufacturers do have issues at times. However, Tesla’s problems are well known and in my estimation, for what that’s worth, they are having more issues than most manufacturers, especially considering the competition in the $50k range.

Yes, you are conflating two issues. You made the statement that only Tesla buyers bring checklists. Wrong. They may do it more often than other car buyers, but that only applies to the Tesla buyers who read/post Tesla forums and groups. The vast majority of Tesla buyers don't read forum posts and don't spend an hour carefully examining every inch of their vehicle and then rejecting it because of a paint bubble inside a door jam.

I don't recall Elon -ever- posting about checklists and earned reputations. He did encourage his production crews to do a better job. Why is that a bad thing?

Let's agree that the vast majority of CAR buyers don't read forum posts and don't spend an hour carefully examining every inch of the vehicle. Maybe, it is because at the $60K+ price point, the car expected to look close to perfect. Perhaps rejecting the car over the paint bubble is a little extreme, but selling cars with doors painted in different colors and expecting people to accept it is a bit concerning.

Yep.

Right on!
