Yoke peeling

Welp, my 14 month plaid yoke is peeling. I'm in CA and service center wants to charge $900 to fix it. Citing cosmetic repairs are not covered under warranty. What to do?
Quick follow-up, I replied to the scheduler mentioning that I would cancel the appt, not pay the money, and that this is warranty repair that I would investigate with CA Lemon law. I got a reply mentioning that they provide the estimate as a worst case scenario in case negligence is determined. So I rescheduled the appt quoting the exchange, and a new appt was created with a $0 estimate. Fingers crossed!

Same with my steering wheel, however I think it's caused by my pants rubbing against the left side of the wheel when I get out or in.
I scheduled a meeting with Tesla, and they showed up and replaced the entire yoke.
But it's happening once again today, two months later. No one makes the kind of yoke cover I'm looking for. It would be helpful if anyone knew of any websites that sell them.

All done! New yoke (and got to keep the old one - xbox mod?). I don't think the craftsmanship issue has been fixed yet so pretty sure I'll reply to this post with an update within 14 months.

FYI. After reading this post I ran out to our 21 S and checked the Yoke. No wear, no problems thank goodness, after 14 months and 8,000+ miles. It's garaged all of the time so maybe that helps. afarkas2222, good to hear everything worked out for you. Hope that you have better luck with the replacement.
Neither my wife nor I ever rub against it with our legs and we keep the wheels pointed straight forward. Isn't there a way to set the seat position all the way back for an easier entry? Sorry if this has been addressed previously.

1) Further evidence that the yoke (and indeed all the new controls) are not only ergonomically stupid, they’re also complete garbage, unbefitting any new car, let alone one that now costs more than $100,000.

2) There is no center horn function. Elon lies constantly—it’s one of his defining traits.
Sorry Dan, I love my yoke and have never driven a better car than the Tesla Plaid S. It is complete BLISS for me! I hope that doesn’t spoil your day. I used to drive Lexus and BMW, but I will never go back to an ICE car. I used to be in the car business. I have purchased four Tesla’s and have a Cybertruck on order. 8500 miles and my yoke is in perfect condition. Please don’t be sad 😢.

Edit: I just took a look at some of your posting history regarding the yoke. JFC, overreact much? WOW!

That's great news. Yeah, I also don't rub against getting in and out of the car. I think my "repetitive stress" spot is my preferred maneuver when having to crank the yoke in U turns and 3 point turns. (No rubbing or cranking yokes please) 🤣

I use the saved entry / exit position and have been very careful to not hit the yoke when entering or exiting in the months I've had the car. I sit pretty close so it's important for me to let the seat go back before getting out. Recently I had Tesla replace a defective tire and afterward I immediately noticed the yoke was bruised and peeling on the lower left. I was unhappy but it didn't occur to me they would replace it. Happening onto this topic, I'll look into it.

Mine also started peeling after 6-7 months. Dec 21 S long range refresh. Never use lotion or products on my hands and keep it in the garage.I just was searching for this problem and found many other sites that have very long threads. It’s obvious this is a widespread issue. It may be just the first runs of refreshes, idk. I know they make minor changes throughout a model year so not sure if it’s fixed. It is super disappointing to spend $125k on a car and see this in such a conspicuous place. I’m concerned that I have a new model X coming for my with with a yoke and it may be the same. It’s actually frustrating to drive feeling that as it spreads along the left side of the yoke.

My 1-year old Model S Plaid has the exact same problem - exact same spot on the yolk (lower left). Mobile service is coming. Picture attached. It is a very wierd place, as that is not a place I normally hold the wheel.
I have a Model X refresh model , purchased in Dec 2021. Material on yoke is starting to peel. I have an appt w/Tesla and they want to charge me $900- to replace/repair the yoke? Shouldn't it be covered by my Tesla warranty? From posts in this thread I see some owners are covered by warranty and some are not! Any suggestions on how to approach Tesla service is appreciated...

"The Best Service is No Service"

But if you must, assume that they will do everything they can to lie and cheat you out of a valid warranty concern, and damage you car in the process if they do work on it.

Fun fact, yoke held on with two screws. Mobile can do it in minutes, and you can retrieve the dropped torx driver before it ounces a hole in your seat..

We offer custom leather / stitching for the OEM yoke.

We replace the fake vinyl leather with nappa leather. Smooth, soft to the touch and much more durable.

Below is an exmaple of black nappa with bronze stitching to match with owner's matte bronze finish aftermarket wheels.

Feel free to DM us for any questions!
