    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Mine started off badly with the insurance company who quoted a few weeks ago now saying they won't insure it, but got better when my delivery date got brought forward from the 26th to the 23rd which is exciting. And got insurance with someone else ok in the end, which means my finance paid out...

    Model 3 Accessories

The Model 3 does not have a OBD port, and may have a diagnostic port of some sort I think but seems to be locked down, so not relevant to anyone but Tesla's own service techs. Both plug in the same place I think. My understanding is that OBD ports can output a variety of types of data...

    Model 3 Accessories

For the ultimate geek, many of us here I am sure, there is now a way to plug in a OBD dongle (I think the Model 3 may be the only modern car to not have a OBD port) and connect the Scan my Tesla app to it. Will give you all sorts of extra info like more in depth battery stats. diagnostic adapter...

    Insurance quotes for Australian M3?

Yes, it is more like you have to get a quote from their repairer, but if you want you can get one from your chosen one too and then only Comminsure decide which one to use. Even if yours was the same price they may insist on theirs given they likely own that repairer or have some other interest...

    Insurance quotes for Australian M3?

Has anyone used them and had to claim? I don't really know for sure but reading them it seems you get what you pay for in terms of service, lots of bad stories around and issues with claims (there is likely to be with any big insurer, so hard to say for sure they are worse, but from various...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I'd make the point that it is less an issue of when the tech will become possible, and more whether it would ever be useful enough and worth the extra cost on a car, and it will always cost something extra. My car will rarely see much sun so I'd barely get anything out of it even if it had...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

This forum is where insurance talk should go Insurance quotes for Australian M3? I personally found AIG (via a broker) to be the best, apart from Comminsure who I don't trust

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Try RAA in SA, they quoted me $5800 ! And even with higher excesses it barely dropped it. Edit - maybe they have come to their senses and lowered it, got an online quote now for $4900 :-)

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

It is clear from the google sheet that most of the time reservation holders have been called or booked in first, but clearly not always. Also I have seen things like me getting booked in on the 26th and they told me that was the earliest date in Adelaide that was free, (I only ordered in June...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

If you email Tesla then include your RN number in the subject, I suspect it might get sorted and dealt with quicker (or might not). Once FSD is working I think the government will get enough tax from all the extra alcohol sales to make up for the lost petrol taxes

As far as I can work out I think the point about type B RCDs is they'll still trip if you get a DC current output from the car down the charge cable and into you. Seems horribly unlikely.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I wouldn't be surprised if a very high quality fake leather for the steering wheel costs them as much or more than a small bit of real leather. And if it costs any less it wouldn't be much at all.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

The heating/cooling system in the Model 3 for the cabin, batteries and motors is quite complex. Read up about the 'superbottle' if you want to learn more, quite interesting. https://jalopnik.com/the-tesla-model-3s-superbottle-easter-egg-is-a-fascin-1830992728 I haven't read enough to be clear...

Another delivery date booked in for 26th Sept in Adelaide - had to politely bug Tesla a bit by email today to get some basic 3rd party finance details sorted and then got the call shortly after. VIN 4434xx, no res, ordered a P+ on 22/6/19

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I agree the discussion about legal contracts should end in this thread, however will make just one comment - I think the real problem is that Tesla changed what was advertised on their website and made it retrospective without telling anyone who already ordered. Unless you are on these forums...

No doubt it is more than just some chargers, i.e. large solar arrays to go with them. Even so does seem like a lot. Can't trust any one publishing general cost figures in public like that though.

I think he means it is only in the NT that you don't have a speed limit, is that still the case though? Anyway that really isn't the point, the AWD is more powerful, a full second quicker in 0-100. The 8kmhs increase in top speed from 225 to 233kmph is certainly irrelevant, but the extra power...

meowsers can you confirm what the surface of these is like? I'm looking for something that is very rubbery/grippy to stop things sliding around as much as possible. They look to have a fine texture to them as well as the larger ribs, but that doesn't always mean they are grippy if you put a...

    Insurance quotes for Australian M3?

Best I have found for price and conditions is AIG (has to be through a broker). CBA was the only one out of lots I checked that is a bit cheaper I've read a lot of bad reports on their service/call center, no choice of repairer, reports from talking to my crash repairer mate, etc. I won't post...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I highly considered it for a while - worried about bending 20" rims on such a low profile where I live, and expensive tyres. But in the end they are difficult to source and expensive - likely have to import from one of only two places in the US that have designed rims that fit over the brakes...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

one4spl is right, but also doesn't help us as you haven't said what that external plug is. I would imagine it is a normal 10A, or a 15A socket, both of which the travel charger can plug in to. If it is a 3 phase plug then it can't. Not sure what else you would be likely to have.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

My understanding if all Tesla superchargers (what you'd most likely use on a long trip) are powered by renewable power. You are right though for some people they won't be 0 emissions, but for even the worse case owner charging off coal the emissions are still better than a normal car, and EVs...

Macquarie and Money pepper are all the same for everyone that I've heard. Though they were originally 4.3% but I believe the people who got approval then would have had their rates dropped as well. Only better one is ANZ but only for business finance, at 3.29% which I'm doing (on a floating...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Of course you would, but it isn't always that easy to do. Also those thin spare tyres that are typical these days are only mean to be installed on the back wheels, so it can mean changing effectively 2 wheels if you get a flat on the front. But basically most manufacturers want to save space and...

In the US but not in Australia. Once you accept delivery it is yours, you'd have to sell it after.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I am pretty sure that like about any other car the speedo in the Model 3 reads a few kmph high, i.e. you probably need to measure to about 103-105kmph not 100 on the screen, and that may be closer to 3.4 seconds. Some forums seem to have people asking why it doesn't calibrate given it does have...

The Model 3 will come with the generation 2 mobile charger and it will do a maximum of single phase 15A, so 15+ hours.

So do you think that does mean cars destined for Adelaide will be unloaded from that ship in Adelaide? I had thought they were all coming in to syd/melb and then trained/trucked over here. I guess if they are in containers they can come off at any port.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Interesting. Certainly not the case in SA, I have read a fair bit of SA Power documentation, but sounds like a problem in QLD. Or you buy a second wall connector off someone who doesn't use theirs and install on the other tarrif :)

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

As in a 15A plug? Shouldn't cost much more to do, not sure why though unless you are worried about the wall connector failing. Personally I'm hard wiring the wall connector to off peak power but with a changeover switch to normal mains if I really want to charge at other times. Those...

    Choosing between 32A & 20A 3 Phase Adaptor Cables

If you are talking about the mobile charger it only comes with normal 10A plug, and the less but still fairly common 15A plug. They can only be physically plugged into the right types of sockets. Your electrician will wire up the wall connector, if you want it. This is the only one that can do...

For a business loan with Macquarie they told me 70% of remaining interest, but I didn't get their full T&Cs to confirm and actually think that is wrong. However 70% is often quoted around the place and I think just not right for any loan. After reading some T&Cs and talking to a broker and some...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I've been told that while technically the standards dropped our voltage in Australia from 240v to 230v in reality the utilities haven't really changed anything. I know of people having big issues with high voltages that then mean solar inverters stop feeding in because they are designed for the...

Sounds like the openEVSE isn't necessary easy to setup with 3 phase though, but I'm not that interesting in mobile 3 phase charging so didn't fully look into it. Read this. Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I think for most people for most of the time 10-15A charging overnight is plenty. I feel like having the ability to do the full 11kw charging when I want will just be nice on occasion but rarely. Will just minimise range anxiety. And may help sometimes to be able to charge quicker at the times I...

I can't believe you all haven't read the manual yet :-) "Reverse: Push the lever all the way up and release. Not going to happen, all the talk is that they standardised on a single UMC type for the world a while back and it isn't 3 phase capable, regardless of the adaptor cable on it Change to UMC design If you need 3 phase mobile charging then you can use the UMC for home charging if fast enough for...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

It has a max 11kw inverter inbuilt for AC charging. Which can mean 11kw/45A via one phase I think, though asking for trouble I think. Or three phases at about 15A each. I am not interesting in taking the wall connector to use as a mobile 3 phase adaptor as suggested by Techno-phile, so I'll...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

You'd get an electrician to hard wire the proper Tesla wall connector instead of using a socket to connect it. It sounds likely it would be a very quick job if it can be installed next to that socket or instead of it. Or you could use the portable charger that comes with the car, plus some...
