    2017 Investor Roundtable:General Discussion

In HK, it wasn't just "an incentive". Cars in HK cost over twice as much after taxes (in the higher end of the spectrum). From being totally exempt of FRT (the tax you pay the first time a car is registered), it's now only "a little cheaper". Tesla DID stock some, before the decision (they must...

    Model X Crash Compilation

Driving in Hong Kong vs Miami is quite a different culture. Hong Kong has just changed the FRT (First Registration Tax), so from now on, all EVs sold in HK are taxed heavily, as compared to no FRT tax at all until March 30th 2017. Sales will likely come to a halt, like it did in Denmark (similar...

GPS problem - my car is alledgedly off the coast of West Africa :)

Off the coast of Africa - judging from the map it seems like the GPS has a position of 0 degrees lat, 0 degrees long: Google Maps This is where 0 / 0 degrees is - the greenwich meridian meets equator. GPS antenna problem seems plausible. Could be as simple as a plug not being properly connected.

Hong Kong Tesla Model S Charging Standard

They can remove the end of your ChaDeMo that is connected to the charging station cable - but they can't unplug it from your car - until you unlock it. They would need your phone, or your fob. So remember to NOT forget your key fob in the car (and don't keep any spare fobs). Handles won't stay...

Hong Kong CLP (ABB) triple-standard combo charger tested (Jan 2016)

Update: These CLP chargers have had firmware updates, so they maximum run for 40 minutes. This goes for all three standards - CCS, ChaDeMo as well as AC. If you want to charge more, you don't have to unplug. Simply stop it (or wait for it to stop after 40 minutes), then click start again. I...

Hong Kong Tesla Model S Charging Standard

Agree with lx3h - it seems to work fine. The main issues are that some ChaDeMo stations have quite complicated menus, and some plugs need you to close a certain latch. As for the menu, if you are not very careful to select it the right way, charging won't start. On the plug-and-play scale, many...

    Model S Wagon?

So that means NOT an entirely new Tesla, but a mod. That could possibly be an acceptable solution until (if ever) Tesla decides to make an estate. No matter how much some people hates estates (wagons, whatever), they can't ignore that other people DO want them. If we want EVs to take over from...

    Model S Wagon?

I AM talking about a retrofit. If at all possible. Either by Tesla themselves, or third party. Order a new hatch, in a different shape - with the same color as the car. An optimum solution would be a real station wagon, but in lack of better, such a hatch would be the next best thing. Shooting...

    Model S Wagon?

I must admit I don't know what the recent Vette looks like. But yes, something like that BUT not "bolt on top" but rather "replace". Take away the rear hatch and replace it with one that would make it into a station wagon.

Tesla Model S as station wagon: Could the rear hatch be removed and a custom one made - which has the shape to make the car into a station wagon? Lights, license plate and some sensors - what else is in the hatch? As in third party offering (of course, most likely no warranty from Tesla then...

    2017 FRT Renewal

This is what the Danish politicians did: Selling a certain number of EVs per year in 2014 and 2015, the sales figures were increasing rapidly (with the introduction of the Model S especially). Then they figured, ok, it's taking off now, so if we introduce a tax on it, we will get such an...

Denmark has gone down that route, unfortunately. In 2015, about 2,800 Teslas were sold, while the first three months of 2016 - one 2 (two) Teslas were sold in Denmark. A handful of cheaper EVs were sold, since the Danish FRT is much more progressive than the HK equivalent. This is how the...

It's important that we find a solution to agree upon - then fine tune it, and present it to the appropriate lawmakers - in due time before 2017. Having a pre-fabricated solution, even written in "law-speak", would make it easier for both opinions to accept it: 1) It's already written and...

As EVs are coming along faster in HK now, there will be more and more opposition to keep the FRT exemption as it is. As suggested earlier, an abrupt change from 0% to 100% FRT overnight would totally kill further progress. On the other hand, full exemption cannot be expected to continue...
