One more environmental and health issue to consider

Most people are concentrating and thinking on transitioning to "sustainable" energy for climate change reasons. Here is one more thing to think on, vinyl chlorides. While we can't totally get rid of this ingredient of plastics we can reduce the use by returning to paper for grocery bags, milk...

    12 volt battery

Are there any subtle signs the 12 volt battery is losing its capacity. My concern is that we have to ride the ferry twice per week and it is about 30 minutes each way. So, there may be longer duration of load on the battery running HVAC, radio, seat heat, screen than the normal user doesn't get.

If 12 volt battery dies what does one do?

hasn't happened, just trying to prevent it from happening.

If 12 volt battery dies what does one do?

ha funny I did find the instruction for this procedure after posting the question. and intend to get the 12 volt A123 and will post the instruction on her phone. And..... have a little jump starter battery in the frunk. thanks. Now wondering if one gets a warning that it is fixing to die...

If 12 volt battery dies what does one do?

If my wife comes out of the store and 12 volt battery just died what does she do? Can't get into the car, where I've stashed instructions and a small charger in the trunk. She Can't open the car door, no emergency hard key, can't open the trunk or the frunk.

OK to Push the Tesla, Tow switch?

trying to find out now if we get a warning that 12 volt battery is beginning to die. (probably not). I had seen somewhere a post saying not to push the car more than some insanely short distance say four or five or ten feet. Trying to check on that as well. here is what I found from the...

How far does charging percentage drop from set point before charging again

Thanks jcanoe. I need to get an understanding of sleep, standby, and awake modes. I'm going out now to determine lead acid or Lithium battery. I'm thinking if Lithium then I can worry less about losing the low volt battery going dead My Y is less than is only 1.5 years old. I'm assuming if...

How far does charging percentage drop from set point before charging again

If I charge up to say 80% and leave it plugged in for 3 or 4 days and the charge goes to something less because the heater or AC may be running or whatever, does it recharge back up to 80%. So the question is how far off of 80% does it have to go off of the 80% to start charging again? This can...

OK to Push the Tesla, Tow switch?

We have to take the ferry to the mainland (Galveston) and often cars that fail to start or run have to get pushed off so other cars can load/unload. So if something happened and we get stranded on the ferry is it possible to push off or are we really stranded? A dead volt 12 volt battery may...

concern about reducing window closing power

could the NIHTSA recall requiring Tesla to use less power to close the windows cause them to not fully seal off and bring us back to the era of when there was excessive and much too much wind noise in the cabin? I know, I know,...... you will say it was the double pane glass that ultimately...

Warning alerts on screen need to be audible and remain on the screen longer.

I've had my Y over a year and have yet to read any of the alerts. As a driver I need to keep my eye on the road ahead. As soon as I feel safe to look at the screen the warning message is gone.

do side camera's view on the screen work as well as side mirrors?

since posting this side mirror vs. camera question I've tried to use the cameras with their image on the screen and I feel its awkward (taking eye off the road to the screen and not able to judge distance. And, the way these jerks drive 20mph over the allowable 5 mph over the limit, they can be...

do side camera's view on the screen work as well as side mirrors?

glad to learn the "Tesla safety feature turned the steering wheel away to avoid the collision". I've wondered if it would do that.

do side camera's view on the screen work as well as side mirrors?

thanks for the feedback, That is a great idea to glance at ALL the mirrors every few hundred yards, like the pilots are trained to do with their instruments.

do side camera's view on the screen work as well as side mirrors?

thank you all , all of you, for the feedback. I'm gonna make the transition. surprised how long It's taken to figure out that the cameras may be better. and I have turned the mirrors out for quite a while too. I had transister radios too and I do remember the 1st time hearing an 8 track...

Tesla uses 1/6 the energy compared to gasoline

Yes indeed SageBrush. It was the military cost in lives and treasure that first got me into thinking electric vehicles years ago long before it was fashionable for stopping climate change. I remember making spreadsheets to compare the cost of the war vs. solar farms.

CCS adaptor for my September 2021 Model Y

thanks for the info, will check the support display. not too concerned about evacuating, we are all about leaving "early". getting back would more likely be the problem. We ran into that with Hurricane IKE in 2008.

CCS adaptor for my September 2021 Model Y

Hurricane season on gulf coast is upon us, trying to expand charging options in case we need to evacuate. I've heard that models prior to October of 2021 CCS adaptors don't work and that one needs a different ECU and a a special wiring harness adaptor. I do not want to do that conversion job...

range degration in the hot summer

Thanks Big Earl, Glad to know its not battery degradation. "range reduction" is a better word for it. I see that one has to be careful when planning errands when just running errands around in a large city with many stops. would like to see a remaining range display based on current...

range degration in the hot summer

how much range degradation should I expect in the summer months? today running errands my range went from 249 to 177 (72 miles) but only traveled 54 miles. applying this this ratio to 326 mile advertised range I would only get a range of 245. most of the driving was high way with two short...

Can the Electric grid handle EV adoption

Thank you for replying. It is not so much Facebook but my own friends that eat that stuff on FB up. Your third paragraph will be the easiest to respond with. I know electrical demand intimately. I had to install systems in my plant that would predict when a new 20 minute peak demand was...

Can the Electric grid handle EV adoption

More posts are now appearing on FB etc. stating the grid can't handle charging if we all adopt to EVs. My 1st thoughts are charge at night in the wee wee hours, but I don't know if the demand difference at 4PM to 9PM and 4 AM to 6 AM is enough to handle the charging load. Does anyone know? 2nd...

    FSD road trip vs flying?

If time were not an issue at all, even an overnight in a hotel, would you choose to drive FSD on a road trip from say Houston to Colorado vs. flying considering all the following frustrations of flying? Over an hour to get to airport, waiting for airport parking shuttle, waiting through TSLA...

Tesla's trip range is way off.

Thank ya'll. Will do! "like a fuel gauge" makes sense. It never was an issue before because I didn't use it. always made more stops than I needed and never got low in daily driving. charge at about 40% or more up to only 80% for daily driving. Previous two trips I used ABRP.

Tesla's trip range is way off.

Trip to Dallas from Houston - When I neared Centerville I checked the range remaining and indicated that I could make it to next Supercharger at Corsicana with 61 miles remaining according to range at top of Tesla screen. Tesla uses 1/6 the energy compared to gasoline

"It's not nearly that simple" I suspected that, and am glad someone came forth with the explanation of why its not that simple. "it takes more than 1 kWh worth of heat to generate 1 kWh worth of electricity" does not support the one third the energy claim by Tesla in the beginning. I've not...

Tesla uses 1/6 the energy compared to gasoline

I'm getting some pushback on Tesla, people saying "well.... where is that energy coming from when you plug it in to charge it that energy has to come from somewhere", you know the usual you've probably heard it a million times. Its not good enough to say to the FUDsters that it only uses 1/3...

    $12K for FSD is insane

Are you FSD Beta drivers more stressed while using FSD? I'm having trouble justifying the extra $ until one can actually trust it to NOT do something dangerous. However, by that time it will cost Giga bucks more. And...... Even with auto pilot on a severe curve on the highway at 60mph it...

How does Tesla sense and alert vehicles in their blind spots?

yes Daniel, I think that should be added, a software update. Its no problem for cars that are in the lane at the time you signal and look over there. but its a problem if you are on a freeway going the speed limit or slower because the slow poke in front of you and another car is approaching...

Cautionary tips for new drivers of the Tesla

Man, remember all that controversy with Toyota's throttle or accelerator pedal. I hated Toyota's stiff spring loaded fix for it. Tesla could fix something like that with a "over the air" software update. BTW, The Bolt is like that? Really? just goes to show you how far advanced the Tesla...

Cautionary tips for new drivers of the Tesla

yeah #5, I did make an abrupt exit off the main thoroughfare and got a honk behind me. I didn't think it was that abrupt though. its probably like GitMart said: applies to all driving. But it did cause me to wonder how or even if the regen braking gives a red brake light. I've decided to...
