    Best 19 tires replacement

I now have 15k miles on the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ Wh/mile went from avg of 303 across 45k miles on the OEM Primacies to 306 avg across first 15k for the 3+, i.e.,only *one* percent worse fuel efficiency. As I noted previously, they handle amazingly well, better than the Primacies, and so far...

Jeff Dahn's recommendation on long term battery preservation

If you are in US: My experience is the key to cost of install is length of the copper (wire) to where the HPWC or the NEMA-14-50 outlet is. IF your car location is close to your main breaker box, I'd install very heavy wire and set the HPWC to run at max of 100 amps, or the max of whatever...

Jeff Dahn's recommendation on long term battery preservation

Yes, life (wishes/wants etc) change. I, oh so close, almost traded by 2013 S85 for a 100D last year, but at the end, I found I couldn't let go of this fantastic amazing vehicle. My (folding) bike is always with me in the (largishj) fronk, And, I love the "classic" style of the front end. But...

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

A primer on crash risks seems relevant to this meandering but interesting discussion that sometimes is mixing up different issues. There are 4 big categories of things affecting injury/ death risks--the things we can and do improve over time with scientific/technical advances and strong...

IIHS Small Overlap Front Crash Test (2nd Attempt): Only Acceptable again.

Re "a bigger/heavier car is always much safer than a smaller/lighter car in a crash": only true if you add "all else equal"--equal safety belts worn correctly, equal air bags, equal *everything* else. The point that weight is one (important) factor affecting safety is correct. The...

So, does your comment extend to Geico's umbrella liability policies? Are you saying they are poor in actively protecting one from lawsuits for those with their policies?

    Wall dryer outlet adapter

Oh, also assuming the adapters are labeled and sold for Tesla use. Very similar adapters sold for general use, often labeled for RVs, typically don't work because they are wired differently. Conversely, don't let someone use your adapter wired for the Tesla in their RV or any other such...

    Wall dryer outlet adapter

Odds are the Model 3 will have similar software option to dial down amperage manually, yourself, which MUST be done before using any such non-Tesla adapter. But, it seems likely none of us have driven the final production version, so we don't know for sure what the interface/manual adjustment...

    Best mattresses for Model S

If you search the TMC, this has been discussed for several years. Folks make different choices. Many buy air mattresses, so they can be stored in smaller space when not in use. I find every air mattress I buy looses air or fails to hold air right when I pull it out and need to use it. Most...

    Best mattresses for Model S

Looks like only 14 in wide, so in my view, much too small. A piece of cheap 3 inch foam seems a better option. No need for it to be cut to wedge shape. A couple feet of foam past the drop will smooth it, provided you have some kind of mattress/futon/air mattress on top of it.

    Best 19 tires replacement

Interesting data. 280 to 300 is a noticeable difference. I averaged 302/mile over 44k miles on Primacys. Now only a few thousand miles on A/S 3+ and I'm at 298. I'll need to wait for more data. Also, A/S 3+ are so new, seems nobody has enough experience yet to accurately know mileage...

    Best 19 tires replacement

Just to help the discussion, we all need to be sure to clarify when folks are describing Pilot Sport A/S 3 vs. Pilot Sport A/S 3+ Seems from some earlier posts, some people might be confounding the two models. My impression from others is that the new 3+ is a significant advance over the 3...

    Best 19 tires replacement

I spent 6 months trying to decide replacements for my OEM Primacys ('13 Model S RWD 85, 19 inch, coil susp). I was *very* happy with the Michelin Primacy tires. The ride, energy efficiency, and I got 44k miles out of them. But research on TMC, TireRack, etc. indicated very high consumer...

Charger repalcement part of the 8 years/unlimited miles warranty?

"The petrol car doesn't have this problem because chances are your gas tank will not break. But a charger is a much more complicated system." With all due respect, this doesn't seem correct. On two counts. When I had gas cars, I had problems with the fuel systems--not unusual at all. Fuel...

    Ioniser

I would urge anyone with the old ionizer to turn it off. Given there are several reports of adverse reactions (including my own experience), I believe the ionizer emits ozone which then gets into the passenger compartment. Ozone is a known lung irritant. It's a pollutant not healthy for your...

    Ioniser

Well, we have two threads discussing the cabin air filtering. Sorry for the cross-post. Thanks to the really helpful folks at the Tampa Sales and Service Center, I got more good info on the new air filter (biodefense) system available optionally on the Model S/X. According to them, the new...

    Cabin filter/ionizer effectiveness

Thanks to the really helpful folks at the Tampa Sales and Service Center, I got more good info on the new air filter (biodefense) system available optionally on the Model S/X. According to them, the new HEPA filter is roughly 2 ft by 1 ft. It has a roughly ¾ inch deep HEPA filter directly...

    Ioniser

I've posted this info in another older thread, but reposting here since it is so relevant to Jude's experience. I have a pre-ionizer Model S, but a loaner I used for a day when mine was in for service had an ionizer installed, unbeknownst to me. Without all the boring details, I have a lung...

    Cabin filter/ionizer effectiveness

Thanks for the fun videos. I've been watching them. Getting rid of a fruit smell is nice, but VOCs, ozone and PM 2.5 are the serious health risks. I know a combination of HEPA filters with charcoal canister filters are the state of the art, if implemented well. They can effectively filter...

I have a pre-ionizer Model S, but a loaner I used for a day when mine was in for service had an ionizer installed, unbeknownst to me. Without all the boring details, I have a lung condition making me *very* sensitive to air pollution of any kind. (I also have a PhD and am a professor in the...

Optimal SoC for a bicycle battery

I agree. I charge fully only right b4 a ride. They probably tell folks to keep it on the charger to make sure it never is completely discharged. Bricked. Many use a bike only occasionally. Bricked batteries would generate warranty and other complaints. (Slightly) Faster degradation, not as...

Optimal SoC for a bicycle battery

I also assume middle SoC is best for my bike lion batt. In addition, after reading a number of the technical research papers, I store the batt in the fridge when not in use. High temps are significant factor increasing degradation rates. (I live in FL).

Blue Ridge Parkway Fall Foilage Route

I did a 5.5k mile road trip this summer, including coming down much of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I did find it someone inconvenient to finding charging along the parkway. I ended up going out to the superchargers along I-81, as well as using destination charging. You do lose quite a bit of...

    Sunpass

No, not the sticker transponder nor the small box transponder goes behind nosecone. Get the "license plate mounted" transponder and mount that behind the nose cone. Mine was installed by Tesla service center at new car pickup with two screws. If you are comfortable popping off the nosecone...

    Sunpass

Yes, it's great with the hidden mount behind the nosecone. I think it's so much better than an (ugly) item on the top of the windshield. Only thing I noticed, is that when at the airport parking SunPass lane, make *sure* to stop firmly right as the rear wheels are on the speed bump. If you...

    Reuters article: Tesla warranty costs

Wow. That is great news. I'm at 34k miles and no repair costs so far. If mine goes to 77k with no cost of buying an extended warranty and total out of pocket repairs of only $1100, I will be so amazingly happy. My previous most reliable Acura, Honda, Mazda, and multiple Toyotas could not...

    Electric Bicycles

Yes, I like my Pedego Classic City Commuter quite a bit. It's quite heavy, but very comfortable ride, and fast. It's not highly maneuverable for off road or rough terrain, more like a big road Harley motorcycle compared to a little dirt bike on the motorcycle side. But, you can use it as a...

    Best mattresses for Model S

On the slope: FYI, the futon I got is 8 inch thick Cotton, and I bought a $10 hunk of 3 inch thick foam, at exact width so it wedges btw the wheels, and about two feet long from the drop off going toward the rear (just to smooth the sudden drop off behind folded rear seats). Best mattresses for Model S

Nice to see this thread active again with new comments and suggestions. Every air mattress I have had leaks air after a couple uses. No matter how pricey. And, they always make noise and shift air when one rolls over. And the plastic is often not comfortable when it's warm. So, I got a...

    Drive Unit Replacement Poll

I lived with the buzz for 10k+ mi, then got DU replacement. I would never say I had a DU "failure." The vehicle always ran fine. Never failed me. Never a stall, like an ICE vehicle did. Never would it not start up and go. It just buzzed, that is, it made noise.

I see Remote S has button to turn on HVAC, but don't see any "camping mode" option. Do you mean that if you turn it on with Remote S it stays on until you turn it off? Do you have to keep that app open on your phone? Thanks for a bit more detail. - - - Updated - - - Not really viable if...

    Drive Unit Replacement Poll

Re: Why it took a year: Well, no real problem, I guess, since I didn't strongly insist on immediate action. Some time roughly a year ago when I first complained of the buzzing, they indicated it was "normal." Then last January I asked again and they indicated they were aware of it...

    Drive Unit Replacement Poll

After about a year with the increasingly loud buzz sound from 5 to 50 mph, I finally was able to get a DU replacement in Tampa this week. *Much* quieter, now. Thanks, Tesla! More than the pedestrians wondering about the noise, I was worried about all the people I gave rides/test drives to...

19" and 21" Tire Wear (informal) Survey

Given the comments here and elsewhere on tire longevity, any survey on tire wear should at minimum stratify by air susp yes/no. Also, a much more imperfect but potentially useful second stratification would be by lifetime average wh/mi (indicating road quality and driving style). --Alex

    Supercharger - Marathon, FL

if you read this document, Tesla apparently made agreement. it says the Supercharger becomes county property after this 5-year lease. This is a small town, so maybe this is not correct, but anyway, two questions. Are all the SpC leases like this? I assume probably not. Second, what are the...
