    weird noises

I'm interpreting your post as asking whether this is common. I'm an individual person, not a statistics report, but I've found and fixed probably six or seven different individual noises in the two and a half years I've owned my Model Y. Some I just ignore/don't fix because they only occur on...

Is it good idea to sound deaden the liftgate portion?

People here recommend against it because the motor was straining to open the hatch afterward. I had the same experience. Motor didn't actually fail but that doesn't mean it's not going to fail in a year. Applying sound deadening to the hatch also doesn't solve booming so there's no point in...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

The road surface is the missing variable for people wondering why stabilizing the hatch doesn't eliminate their booming. I have two naughty roads within three miles of my house. Stabilizing my hatch by inserting vinyl tubing almost totally killed booming on one of the roads and did nothing for...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

It is also getting warmer in the northern hemisphere which causes many materials to expand which will tighten up the body leaving less room for vibration. Speaking from personal experience, it makes a difference. I thought I had the situation under control until the next winter came.

    Album / Audio Art Disappeared

I'm pretty sure this is a race condition in the Tesla software. In other words, one part of the software goes to play the song while another part goes to retrieve the album art. If the part that starts playing the song is faster than the part that retrieves the album art, then you get no album...

2023 Model Y Long Range Disappointment in boominess after Demo Drive

Yeah, this reminds me. I was out of state driving my mom somewhere in my MYLR and I was bitching about the BOOM BOOM every time the tires went over the huge concrete seams in the road. She said "if you hadn't mentioned that, I never would have noticed it!" Oops!

2023 Model Y Long Range Disappointment in boominess after Demo Drive

In my experience the strength of the booming depends mostly on the road surface. "Textured pavement" is the worst. This is important because if you aren't doing your test drives by your place of residence and then, when your car arrives, you hear booming, you may think that the problem is...

2021 Model Y lots of road noise rumble on stock 19's - any advice for improvement?

    Ear pain/Pressure help

It's possible that your vehicle is missing insulation over the rear wheel wells like mine was. There are a lot of posts in this thread about installing roll-on butyl and foam in that area.

Failed delivery due to trunk hutch aligned. Should I have fixed myself?

I also think I would prefer #1. Reason is, some people think a misaligned hatch causes booming (due to the hatch moving when driving over uneven surfaces). And there's no way to fix it except to align the hatch, which is apparently difficult to do yourself. Knowing this, under no circumstances...

Wyoming is afraid EVs are going to kill their industries

I agree. We all need to support education/training. It will take the edge off the pain of this transition and it needs to start right now. I wouldn't count on the government coming to save people when the time comes. Though we did get a new bill passed recently that should help some. My concern...

    Rubber noise from hatch

The best way is to try to reproduce the sound while you are not driving. Sit inside the trunk and press or hit on the hatch trying to make it move. You can also use a "tone generator" app on your phone (search for it) to play a bass (50 hz or 60 hz) tone loudly through the speakers. That will...

Wyoming is afraid EVs are going to kill their industries

It's going to be a hard transition for a lot of people. I know, right now it's like, "Wyoming? Who cares about them?" But it's going to hurt people everywhere. I'm particularly worried about the price of gas when it's no longer economical to run refineries all the time. It's already no longer...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Buffeting means the cabin is not sealed. Usually the problem is the hatch seal, and hatch movement might cause the seal to open and close rapidly. Booming comes from all over. Personally, I agree that the worst of it is from the rear wheel wells. But a lot of people blame hatch movement. I...

"Model Y Shelf" did not reduce booming for me.

Vibration/noise from right side of backseat of ModelY

Another thing to check is the headrest. You can use a paperclip to loosen it, then remove it entirely to test. I was mostly able to silence them by jamming them all the way down (below the bottommost locking position).

    Weird beeping noise

Wild. At first it sounds like a electronic beep, but the length isn't consistent. So that makes me think of the brakes or another mechanical source.

    RATTLE

Check headrests. Can temporarily remove them to check. Have to use a paperclip. Pushing them down all the way (below what's supposed to be their lowest position) helps. Sometimes the metal locking clamps between the seats rattle. Can put the seats down, one at a time, to check.

    Help me identify this popping/creaking!

Not a sound I'm familiar with. It sounds open air (not coming from inside something) which is weird. But that could be an illusion. I assume you've already secured the seat belt buckles and emptied everything out of all the center console compartments as well as the glove box. One thing to...

    Buffeting/Booming issue survey

I'd say it depends on how much you like the car outside of the booming. If you like it a lot, watch ilovecoffee's video and implement fixes. If you're still unhappy after that, then get rid of it. The key is decisive action one way or the other. If you waffle, you will wallow in it.

Attaching picture. While the door is closed, from inside the car, try jamming your fingers in under the plastic on the door side and pushing up. That stops it for me for a while. Buffeting/Booming issue survey

It's not completely gone. Most of the time it doesn't bother me anymore. But on textured pavement or big bumps, I still notice it. I didn't put butyl under the existing sound blankets on the wheel wells, which is apparently an important spot. I also suspect that my hatch is slightly out of...

Did you lose any of the small white plastic clips that go along the full length of tops of the big side panels? In my experience even missing a single one of those clips will result in the panel buzzing especially while turning. And they are maddeningly easy to lose.

    Buffeting/Booming issue survey

Buffeting is the high pitched sound of wind flapping and ear pressure pain, as when you are taking off in an aircraft or diving in a pool. It occurs all the time when the car is in motion at some speed. It is caused by the car's cabin not being sealed. Usually the break in the seal is around the...

    Buffeting/Booming issue survey

What helped the most for me with booming was adding butyl and foam above the wheel wells. Note that buffeting and booming are two different problems that can have two different solutions. I fixed my buffeting right away by adjusting the hatch stops so the hatch sealed correctly.
  39. PecuniaNonOlet

Which method worked for you to reduce booming?

Pressure and booming are two distinct issues. They can have two distinct causes. I suspect pressure is usually because the car is not sealed around the hatch. Adjusting the stops can help with that. Booming may be coming from the hatch, so adjusting the stops can also help with that problem. But...

Squeaking and creaking sound from both rear area doors

I can't isolate the sound from the video but my passenger's side rear door trim makes a plastic squeaking or creaking noise. The problem is pathological with the entire side of the car not fitting together well (compared with the driver's side). I can stop it from making noises temporarily by...

Why do so many Tesla owners back in to park?

For me it's totally unrelated. I started backing in years before I got my Model Y. Got tired of trying to avoid the assholes parked across from my driveway as I backed out. So maybe it's just that Tesla owners are more likely to be older/more experienced drivers.

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Tesla quality control has a bad reputation for a reason. When I bought my Model Y, I knew there was probably going to be something I'd have to address. I just didn't know what. So I went in with that mindset. There are also advantages to buying a Tesla, like the supercharger network and not...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Maybe some people don't understand how the hatch stops work. I personally didn't understand for over a year. You would need to do a test drive on the same roads you're planning on driving your car on. Textured pavement is the worst. Some of it is also expectations. If you are coming from a small car, the sound of a larger/heavier vehicle like the Model Y may surprise you. And finally, some lucky...
