    [MD] 18x8.5" Flow One F1 Wheels (5x114.3 +30) w/ Falken RT660 tires

Went out and measured the remaining tread and they had a bit more than I thought lol. All four tires were around the same tread depth (just over 4 mm.)

    [MD] 18x8.5" Flow One F1 Wheels (5x114.3 +30) w/ Falken RT660 tires

Hey all, Selling a set of wheels I used on my 2021 Tesla M3 Performance. I originally picked these up to use solely as winter wheels, but also used them for one season of autocross (only attended a handful of events.) I'm probably not going to attend any events this year and wanted to clear them...

This is what someone shared on FB. I was trying to find something on Summit's website but maybe its a bit new.

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

Has anyone come across tracks banning EV and hybrid vehicles? I'm over in the DC region, and saw something about Summit Point (on FB so not sure if true lol) no longer allowing EV and hybrid vehicles. Last year, I believe the DC SCCA chapter mostly ran at Summit Point and FedEx Field...

What's your next EV after Tesla?

When I was shopping for an EV in 2021, the Supercharger network weighed heavily in my decision to get a M3P. In reality, after nearly two years of ownership, I've only needed to charge outside of my own home a handful of times. At this point, given my driving habits, I think I could completely...

What did you sell/trade for your 3?

Hopefully by the time it comes out, a cheaper version exists. I think the Polestar 6 concept is gorgeous (but also likely way out of my price range. Lol)

What did you sell/trade for your 3?

Before my M3P, I had a M2 and a ND Miata. I enjoy my M3P, but I really miss driving the Miata (even moreso than the M2.) Most of my yearly miles come from just cruising around on scenic backroads (I find it relaxing as I mostly work from home.) With the exception of sitting in traffic, the Miata...

Is Tesla Y better than other all electric SUVs?

Third row seating means it’s likely a MPV (same category as vans; eligible for the higher $80k msrp limit.) I reallllllllllly like the Polestar 3. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous.

    More price drops coming?

I think prices are going lower. Prior to the latest price drop, I believe Tesla reported a gross auto margin rate of 28%. At the start of 2021, their gross auto margin was close to this as well (back when the LR Y was $50K - lower than the current price with pandemic-related supply...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

This is really excellence news. Now I’m really curious if we’ll see more downward pressure on prices for other EVs? The price of the Mach E has to be considered nuts now, but I’m also curious if the ID4 will drop considerably.

I would be surprised if the US didn’t eventually levy tariffs on these components and resources (similar to what we already do for steel, trucks, etc etc.)

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

Of course there is similarity. People shopping for vehicles will buy what they can afford...today. Whether cheaper BEVs are next year, three years, or ten years away is inconsequential to folks that need a car today. This is also completely ignoring the challenges of lacking L2 charging at home...

For those who have taken their Tesla to a track day, let me (and the community) know what kind of range you got!

On a hot autocross test-and-tune or school day, I can average out around 1800 Wh/mi for my 21 M3P on 200TW tires. Always fascinating to see my projected range drop so hard. I stop for the day when I hit around 10 miles. :)

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

I believe they work with CATL (and maybe BYD?) to supply some of the batteries (or cells), so maybe there is something different with the battery chemistry? I think Tesla's gross car margins are like 28%, but I havent seen anything that breaks it down by region (other than China-made Y's having...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

It is especially tricky if you dont know how regional range estimates are calculated. Not sure if Im reading that correctly but 545km > 330 miles. In any case, range is calculated differently amongst all the regions. But youre right, the extra speed is why the US model is 50% more. I believe...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

I agree that prices likely cant be the same price, just that the same car is 50% more expensive here. Tesla is seeing stiff competition in China (largely in result to the economy), and as a result, is forced to be more competitive on pricing. There is no US OEM making affordable EVs like BYD...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

This argument kinda reminds me of the expression that it is expensive to be poor. If folks can’t afford it today, it won’t matter how future proof something is. The median US income is around $55K, with something like 2/3 of Americans living paycheck to paycheck. If someone needs a car today...

IRS definitions of what's a car vs SUV by manufacturer for $55k vs $80k price limit

I'm not sure if this was mentioned in this thread, but if you check out DOT's initial assessment of the Model Y from 2020, it actually refers to the Model Y as a MPV (not a SUV.) What I dont know is if this is a self-classification (from Tesla), or by the NHTSA; it could also be unofficial for...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

Given the price differences between PHEVs and EVs, and limited selection of EVs under $50K, I would be surprised if people are cross-shopping the two. A Ford Escape PHEV is around $38K (before any tax credit); not too far off the ICE price and still 20% cheaper than the closest EV SUV (the ID4.)...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

Not just that, but until it's a POS reduction, most folks will need to finance/pay interest on the $7500 they hope to recoup at the end of year (about $2K in interest alone over a standard loan term - assuming no early payments and whatnot.)

Federal Tax Credit Rules - Will drive Model Y price down to $54,000

I think the MY-SR/LR and MYP will both be under/at $55K (Not far off the 2021 prices and even Dec 2022 prices.) The 7 Seater-Y will be $62500. lol My second guess is all cars are MYP, and you pay to unlock performance (the return of stealth performances.) Maybe have an option to pay for it...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

In all honesty, I dont like that the bill covers vehicles up to $80K at all. If the purpose of the overarching act is to ultimately curb inflation, the Model Y at $55K sounds perfectly reasonable as a goal (same for the other vehicles in its class.) $80K is more than the median household income...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

Yea, I dont think the Model Y meets any of the SUV requirements regarding angles and clearances. What's fascinating though, is that the Model 3 meets more of the requirements than the Model Y; the M3 exceeds the minimum approach and departure angle requirements. According to the NHTSA, a vehicle...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

I think the issue is that if you classify the MY or Mach E as a SUV, you could potentially make the argument that all AWD sedans are actually SUVs. The Model 3 has more ground clearance than the Mach E (and not much less than the MY) so you would need some other deciding factor to split the two...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

The $80K limit is for SUVs and vans. If the 7-seater Y is a MPV, its qualifying for the higher limit under its van classification.

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

Title 49 established a federal definition (under DOT) for constitutes a SUV. I think someone shared it earlier, but its been in use for CAFE regulation for like 60 years. All OEMs had to know of this definition. In either case, if you look at the initial assessment for the Model Y on the NHTSA...

I'm really curious about the 2023/Chattanooga ID4. It seems like the NA ID4 has always had higher ground clearances than the EU models (and that the official docs are likely quoting the EU models.) I've heard of the US clearance as high as 8.6" for the AWD ID4. I'm curious to see the assessment...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

If I were a betting man, the 7 seater is likely falling under van specification ($80 MSRP limit for vans.) I believe DOT classifies any vehicle that seats more than 5, but less than 10, as MPV (the same category as minivans.) The Y is pretty close to some minivans in dimensions and ground...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

I'm not surprised at the IRS playing hardball with the classifications defined under Title 49. The MME pretty much has the same ground clearance as a Model 3. Is seating position enough to mark one as a sedan or SUV?

Actually, Treasury guidance mentions foreign made vehicles may qualify when leased. Seems to be contested by some folks so I guess we’ll see what happens.
  34. randmness

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

I believe so. Like others have mentioned, the 7 seater Y is likely falling under the van category. I believe the NHTSA classifies any vehicle that seats more than 5, but less than 10 as a MPV; the same classification that minivans fall into. It didnt dawn on me until recently how similar the 7...

IRS weighs in on tax rebate, mostly bad news for Model Y

Not to throw a wrench in this, but I think the North American ID4 sits higher than the EU ones. If you go over on their forums, people are measuring the ground clearance for US/CA models at 8-8.6”. Seems like it’s slightly lower at the wheel wells, but I’m curious if that goes into the equation...

IRS definitions of what's a car vs SUV by manufacturer for $55k vs $80k price limit

While we now know the price brackets for the eligible EVs, has anyone found info on how much credit each vehicle qualifies for? I’m guessing they have until the 2023 tax season to nail down, but just curious really.

IRS definitions of what's a car vs SUV by manufacturer for $55k vs $80k price limit

Agreed. I really doubt the IRS is going to care about what’s on the sticker of the car vs what is in the MVP/registration/titling details with the state. Tesla already has a subscription option for FSD, so paying $15k upfront probably will make even less sense (should prices drop to meet this.)
  38. randmness

IRS definitions of what's a car vs SUV by manufacturer for $55k vs $80k price limit

I wonder if they’ll lower the price of FSD, or potentially option out the equipment entirely. I can’t imagine the take rate has been particularly high the last quarter. $15K FSD option on a $55K car sounds wild.

    19" Gemini or 20" Inductions?

If you keep an eye out on the Marketplace/Facebook, you could probably pick up an aftermarket set of Model Y wheels for less than $2K. The Inductions and Uberturbines seem to pop up all the time; I picked up a set of forged wheels and tires for $1100. From there, you could likely sell your...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

I think it will potentially get worse than before. Carvana (and others) are essentially on the verge of bankruptcy so there will likely be large influx of vehicles on the wholesale market. Most trade-ins are actually sold at auction, but cars are sitting at auction due to dealers having funds...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

I havent heard anything definitive on what cars will qualify for the full $7500 (only speculation.) A few OEMs have already come out stating they are likely to be eligible for the $3750 though. I think the rules were supposed to be flushed out by year's end, but I guess qualifying vehicles dont...

SHOULD TESLA BE WORRIED? (2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB Starts at $10k Less Than a Tesla Model Y)

I think it looks good. 🤷‍♂️ Hopefully more competition at the sub-$60K pricing, coupled with the economy, will push prices downward. When we were looking for cars to replace my wife's car, we considered a few non-Teslas. At the same price, due to dealer markups, it didnt make sense for us to...

    Parking in my garage

This is what we had before until it was unnoticeably caught in a door and pulled out of the ceiling. 😭 😂 What I do like about the proximity light is that it works relatively well on any vehicle. There's nothing that needs to be set per vehicle, or used as a reference point, as its just...

Yep. I bought one of these. It basically has a distance/proximity sensor that shifts the warning light from green -> yellow -> red once you reach the set adjustable distance; if you do end up picking one up, I'd recommend powering it via a USB cord. It's been helpful for pulling into the...

    Parking in my garage

Until Tesla adds an update to add the parking support via Tesla Vision, in the interim, it might be easier to park backing up. We recently picked up a Model Y as well. I setup one of those cheap wall mounted sensors to alert the parking distance for my wife.
