    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Just installed 2024.8.7 on my model y, although all the anticipation was pointless. For whatever reason, Australia wasn’t deemed important enough to get the adaptive headlight update.

NEW - Matrix LED Adaptive High Beams with Release 2024.8.3

Still sitting on 2.7 in Australia, it feels like Tesla has forgotten about us.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yes, my car is already in for paint correction, ceramic coating. This was booked before I took delivery. I think you’re better off with it being on the ship. Mine sat outside for just shy of a month exposed to the elements.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

It was overcast and parked under cover. Yes I should’ve walked around with a torch but I have never needed to inspect a new car with a torch. My guard was probably down, with my wife’s model 3 being fine.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Feedback from detailer, after my model y had been sitting at the port of Brisbane\ distribution centre for around a month. “We’re going to do a full vehicle, single stage paint correction. Under detailing lights it shows up swirl marks, water spots, bug stains and scratches that we’ll need to...

Yeah but my car was one of the ones that got off and then sat in limbo at the distribution centre for most of November.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Pickup for me this morning but if I’m honest, not much wind left in the sails after the wait.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Vision is unfortunately one of Elons more stubborn moments. It’s akin to Steve Jobs and his viewpoint on iPhone size. It’s been going on for ages and they can’t get it right. Maybe one day he will have a “square peg, round hole” epiphany.
  9. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I don’t think that’s good enough. You can buy cars for half the price with parking sensors.
  10. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yeah I saw it, which makes me wonder if they changed their policies around shipping or if the news articles had incorrect information. It feels like a new issue for Tesla, given how inept they’ve been at handling the issue with customers.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I don’t think 6.9 to 100 is sluggish but I guess I’m used to most ice vehicles being 8-10 seconds. What’s more useable is acceleration when overtaking. Think the additional range can be useful if you drive long distances often. Long distance driving is not for me though :)

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Agreed and then there is also the fact that NMC degrades faster and is more volatile. I like the extra performance and the AWD but neither are important here in Australia.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

What I find curios is that if you go through old news articles about biosecurity\ quarantine. Many of the articles stated that Tesla did not share ships with other manufacturers to reduce the likelihood of being affected by quarantine. I wonder if they’ve changed their shipping policy since...

They definitely have different plate policies by state. In QLD they give you the standard maroon\ white plates.

    Too soon 😉

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I have a 3 year lease, so the economics of the wrap just don’t work for me but it looks cool. My last car had ppf, ceramic coating and ceramic tint. Made zero difference to trade in. Now I’ll only do ceramic coating and ceramic tint.
  17. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I get the concern about maintenance but imo the model y looks the best in black. Will be my first black car but the colour definitely makes the model y look less bulbous. I’m surprised that no one likes the midnight silver because that was my second choice. White for me does not do the model y...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

At this point I’m starting to believe that my delivery date was pushed out so far because they already had my money. Rather move up other deliveries where the money is still outstanding. Only way I can explain getting a delivery date on the 3rd Nov for 1 Dec. Makes no sense when people who’s...
  19. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I got my scheduling sms on the 3rd of Nov and my earliest pickup is 1 Dec. So it varies a lot. I honestly don’t understand how I got saddled with a pickup date so far out. I bet there are people that had their vehicles arrive after mine on other ships, that got earlier delivery dates.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I remember a time when most cars did 0-100 in 10-13 seconds… Even now, most cars are over 8 seconds. Where performance actually matters, like overtaking the rwd is plenty quick. I too prefer the LFP. I couldn’t justify the extra cost of the long range. I don’t drive long distances, if it...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yeah, you definitely need a battery and an inverter that can be controlled by Amber. Otherwise you’re in for a world of pain. I can’t justify the economics of a battery with my grid consumption unfortunately.
  22. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

My first month at Ovo was just under $50… My consumption is really geared toward minimising grid consumption though, only time it spikes it when I charge the ev. On non overcast days when I’m not charging the ev, my house load is 30-40kwh but my grid load is 4-6kwh. Solar feed in is between 20...

I’ve already sold my car, is majorly inconvenient having to plan my life around family members vehicle availability.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

    Yes but Aussies are cheap.
  25. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

BYD will surpass Tesla in Australia merely by offering the lowest prices. Aussies like cheap cars, Koreans did it with ICE and Chinese will do it with BEV.

Ovo Energy, 10c feed in and 8.39c charging.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

The only issue with waiting is that it can take quite a while to get an appointment slot for installation. My installation took a day and a half to fully complete. Keep in mind that the charging cable is quite long, so it should give you some flexibility even if the charger turns out to be...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

With overheads of running the cooling and cpu, it’s probably closer to 7kw going into the battery but I think it’s more than adequate for home charging. I tried using excess solar as opposed to an EV plan initially but found the rate of charge from excess solar on an 8kw system too slow. I also...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Same, I’m not forking out to convert to 3 phase. I had to upgrade my switchboard because I ran out of space on the board, which cost around $2k for the board and to run the cabling. On my wife’s lfp model 3, if the battery is 30% we will typically get to just under 100% in the 6 hour charging...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Tesla has to give you more info because all the financing leg work is done by the customer. If I could just sit back and have my leasing company handle everything like they’ve done in this past, I’d be less bothered.
  31. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

At this point, my Tesla alternatives would be a byd seal or Volvo ex30 but they’re also going to involve a wait.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

That’s disgusting, they should be fined for actions like that.
  33. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yeah, I’m not condoning the yelling but I understand the anger. I’m quite upset given the circumstances but it hasn’t resulted in me screaming at anyone. It would serve no purpose because the person I’d be screaming at is too low in the chain of command to have contributed toward the issues or...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I’m not a sales person myself but work with customers. I can guarantee you that if something goes wrong on one of my engagements, even if it’s the customers fault, there will be a lot of yelling by the customer. Maybe it isn’t the sales advisors fault but Tesla definitely has issues with their...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

They also chose to use a ship that already had a chequered history with regard to biosecurity. In my case, it’s 4 weeks wait since landing in Australia. I ordered a black car, I’m going to be pissed if it’s been sitting outside\ haphazardly cleaned and has any paint swirls.
  36. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yes but normally the lease company pays for the vehicle once you are happy and accept the vehicle. Tesla’s sales process where you are the middle man between them and the leasing company is not the same.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Quite frankly, I can’t see how SG Fleet (CBA) will loan money and not expect payment\ interest to be due starting from the payment date. All loans function that way. This is all Tesla’s fault, it makes no sense that my scheduled delivery is almost a month after receiving the “your vehicle has...

Charging from Excess Solar with Teslapy

Is the electric mower any good? I tried a ryobi battery powered one that would constantly bog down when the grass was longer or slightly wet. Eventually just got a petrol mower so that I could power through and get the job done and not look like an idiot in front of the neighbours.

They’re also frustrating to remove and put back with the Velcro.
  42. W

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I still don’t understand why my earliest express delivery appointment is Dec 1st. If there are still vehicles on the ship and it takes this long to work through the unloaded vehicles, then there is little hope of everyone getting their vehicles this year.

    New M3SR vs LR

I’ve stuck to SR for both out Tesla’s primarily because I don’t like the LR battery chemistry. Each to his own though.
  44. W

Charging from Excess Solar with Teslapy

Is charging from solar really worthwhile? I have a 10kw solar system but Ovo Energy pays 10c for fit and 8.39 c to charge from 12-6am, so financially it doesn’t add up for me?

    Black seats in MY

Both have a layer a colour coating applied. The only part that is initially white is the base fabric. Both also cost exactly the same amount to manufacture, so the white is a nice cash grab for Tesla (along with their single colour paints that cost more).

Was happening on my wife’s model 3. She now keeps baby wipes in the car to wipe the marks off. It’s usually from skin products.

Yeah, I had an order for a highland originally but was also eyeing the model y stock and a black rwd popped into inventory.

I’m Brisbane too… I’m guessing they’re scheduling deliveries based on order dates to make it fairer. I ordered on the 19th of October.
