Does the 12 volt accessory plug in the trunk area of the Y stay active if car is turned off?

You have lived long enough. Cybertruck has it now. I know the parts to use to install AC outlets into a Model S/3/X/Y, except for connecting the inverter into the high voltage battery pack. I suppose I could buy a motor power harness, and then splice into it. Wouldn't be integrated nicely and...

Did they stop putting matrix headlights in Model Ys in the US?

Selected. It's still light out so I'll have to wait to test it.

    Songs that just hit hard...

NSFW and very protest/political. All of them are ones I ripped myself from my own CDs. Back then, if I wanted it, I just bought it. My bed sits on a pedestal of copy paper boxes full of CDs. I have many life long friends in the music industry.

Reporting a Supercharger problem is a pain in the butt!

That's a bummer. It would be a great way to collect fault data. Geo location data from the car could easily be used to collate the data to make heat maps of issue areas. Collected logs from the car can show better what was seen by the car. Then the dispatcher can better prioritize issues, and...

Charging at home at 16 amps instead of 32

I have a 6-50 outlet for welder use that is limited by a 40 Amp breaker. To get around a truck in the driveway, I used the welder's extension cord. After a few months I got a drop in current to half. There was a message in the notices saying there was an overheat at the plug. After a bit of...

Wiki Largest gaps between Superchargers on US Interstates

North Fork of Long Island needs some love. The only DCFC on the North Fork is a single stall 50kW with priority for Greenport residents. A Supercharger in the hamlet of Southold or Greenport is sorely needed. At least one can find a Supercharger on the western side of Riverhead. I think most of...

    Songs that just hit hard...

The world isn't all flowers, sweetness and cotton candy, and Swift isn't a teen anymore. People often write songs based on their lived experiences. Coddle the kids too much, and they won't know how to deal with users and abusers of the world. The storytelling in music is one of the many ways...

Tell me about it. . . I can relate to way too many of her songs. At least her's are not actually about me. Both of these quickly made it to my favorites list, and I do turn them up.

    Songs that just hit hard...

Don't know if it is new, but very old mp3 files aren't recognized on the flash drive. I have many mp3 files dating back into the early and mid 1990s.

Reporting a Supercharger problem is a pain in the butt!

While I'm parked there at the supercharger I just press the voice command button on the steering wheel. Then I say "bug report" then the supercharger site name, dispenser id, and what is going wrong. Usually the next time I'm there it's fixed.

    Tesla Van

People still have talent, they just make the art on a computer. Then they print it onto a wrap. I want to paint a car like a rock with cave art on it. I'm in the process of working on the design.

    Tesla Van

I see two possibilities. A large sprinter sized cargo/trades/RV/bus in tall and short versions. It really needs normal 300 mile range, and 500 mile long range battery packs. The latter is for long distance cargo expediter and RV use. A big issue is it quickly goes over 11,000 pounds if it is...

    Built in solar panel

I'd thought of taking a roof glass sheet, then adding Maxeon solar cells to the underside it. One would need to strip off any tinting, then apply a tinting to the bottom of the mounting and sealing epoxy the cells are embedded in. It could also be done to the hatch. The could also be top surface...

    Lack of Updates

Does not matter. The car is supposed to come with 8 years of updates as part of the original purchase. I don't think I've gone more than 6 weeks without an update. I haven't really paid attention. I will mention I have been actively providing critiques on FSD's operations. I've noticed and...

Taking a long trip to a National Park with no EV charging infrastructure.

The NPS wants to install many EV chargers. There is a NPS wide program working on installing them. BMW donated 100 L2 stations. Last I searched on it was a bit before the program was formed. It was in the process of being formulated. So I put my 3 cents in. This PDF is mostly on NPS own EV...

    everything in the fridge!?!!?!?

I miss sailing, and especially the few long trips I went on. Biggest mistake was not accepting the offer to sail around the world with my friend on her 50m yacht. I have an ICECO 30 liter or is it quart unit. It was one the quietest of the low cost ones when I was looking a year ago. It lives...

    Beartooth Highway question

With mountains, you will gain some back when descending, but I don't know rules of thumb for it yet. Obviously the energy used to push the air aside when you are moving and for the HVAC system can't be recovered, but a significant percentage of the energy used to gain elevation can be recovered...

    What happened to 4.5.1?

33 is greater than 5... In a version number the "." separates independent numbers. It isn't a decimal point.

Software Update Advanced does nothing, right?

Yesterday I got 2024.14.9 which still has FSD V12.3.6 with only minor fixes from 2024.14.5. Car is a mid Dec 2022 production MYP in MYLR clothing. Yeah, no spoiler, 19" Gemini wheels, Model Y Long Range text on the ID screen, and otherwise a MYP guts including brakes and VIN#. I first got...

Tesla Motors - The Early Years

What Musk did was fund and structure the control of an EV company so the auto and fossil fuel owners couldn't buy it up, control, and squash it. That buy up, control, and force out the founders so it could be squashed was a means that had been used again and again to keep promising alternative...

Tesla Motors - The Early Years

This build an expensive car for enthusiasts first, then go to less and less expensive cars to build the company was a general view on an EV Motor controller email list I was on around the turn of the eon. Yeah, 2 years before SpaceX was founded. It was part of what I told Musk when he tried to...

Post your Travel trailer that you tow with your Y

Teardrops and Tiny Travel Trailer forum has lots of discussions on tiny travel trailers, and even making them yourself. I used to post there years ago when I was thinking of making a hard sided popup. I wish I'd had the energy to make the hard sided popup I designed. Unfortunately my ME/CFS got...

Frequent heat pump failures on Giga Berlin Ys delivered in Norway

The user error was basically HVAC need service, and the car got cold. It was a 34F night where I was driving. The only error code was the compressor couldn't start after multiple retries. I didn't think to take a photo of the error screens. At the time it died I was driving. The post repair...

Living with the 16v LV battery

This is the problem. Some power supplies gracefully lower voltage to limit current, but most don't. My suggestion is to use a DC to DC battery charger, and set it's maximum draw current. Something like the Orion XS maybe can do it. It has a 17 VDC input maximum which I haven't confirmed is...

    AP/FSD related crashes

My experience with FSD 11.* and 12.* is it doesn't fully understand trains yet. It is particularly bad with RR crossings that don't have gates, which is the case with many rural and small town ones around here. I've been reporting improperly handled RR Crossing / train incidents. I think part of...

Frequent heat pump failures on Giga Berlin Ys delivered in Norway

Last month I had a total replacement of heat pump plus all HVAC refrigerant touching components that took 6 hours in the shop from when I dropped it off until I picked it up. It is a giga Texas 2023 Model Y, and happened at 42,000 miles. Of course my new compressor vibrates a lot more at some...

Model Y Hitch Spare Tire Carrier

I had wondered about FSD not working. One idea had me flipping the tire around so the camera could look through the spare tire's wheel disc web holes. I still think the obstruction would be too much. It might take a more sparse web like Martian wheels has. My other idea was to mount a second...

Regret purchasing FSD after the Ver 12 "upgrade" being crammed down my throat

So control overload is the issue, and Tesla is aggressively removing buttons and stalks, and changing control actions based on what mode the car is in. I don't want to have to keep a state machine in my head that tracks the state of the car so I can know how a button, scroll wheel, or stalk will...

Living with the 16v LV battery

Back in 2022 I bought a 12/24 VDC input USBC charger. Blitz Power 120W Super Fast Car Charger Type C is the unit. No issues working in the 2023 Model Y. I bought it so I could use it in a 24VDC tractor. It also works fine when powered by my 6S3P LiFePO4 battery I use for recharging quad copter...

Living with the 16v LV battery

I have an ICECO JP30 Refrigerator Freezer that works fine with my 2023 Model Y. It lives in my Model Y. It uses a SECOP Compressor unit which is the successor to the old Danfoss BD Series compressor units. Their controller has a universal input that covers the full 12 VDC and 24 VDC lead acid...
