    Problems with traction control

Thats a really good idea! Next time I drive the 17, I'll just video the entire thing ...then edit.

You hold down the voice activation button and say "Bug Report" ;) That puts a marker in the logging stream.

    Problems with traction control

2015 S85D About a year ago my front motor started throwing faults and going offline so I brought in the car under warrantee to have the problem fixed. During the fix..dropping down the motor, they somehow broke the steering racks and had to get some replacements. After I got the car back...

    New Fire

Ditto here. Of course my garage is full of stuff and has no SPACE for a car...but I still would be parked outside if it did ;)

Supercharger - Scotts Valley, CA (LIVE 30 Jan 2020, 16 V3 stalls + Magic Docks)

Howdy, Was driving home to bay area from Aptos and saw on my display that Scotts Valley was offline. Didn't really need it but was thinking of stopping in to check it out... Anybody know why it was down (or was it not down?)

    Supercharger - Seaside, CA (6 V2 stalls)

Stopped to charge there two days ago. All 6 superchargers in use and only 2 drivers in evidence..(me and one other family) Other cars empty and sitting there. Where do people go? I seems pretty bleak around there. Service guys charging loaners?

The Tesla Model S is the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

That's one way to look at it. I like RR because it is units of energy calibrated for the car you are in. This will be true in any car with RR you drive the future. Percent is not calibrated at all, so someday when your rental car is an EV, or you get a 2nd car with different battery size...

The Tesla Model S is the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

I've found the rate range to be spot on. RR assumes no wind, 65F, and no hills, non pefrormance tires, etc. You know this right? I have an S86D and I can easily get 240 wh/mi. But I prefer to go faster 8) So I'm not quite sure what you're getting on about here....

I've had my Model S for a month now. When does simply looking at it get old?

If I was buying now, I'd probably get a performance Model Y, but my 2015 S85D still makes me smile when I see it out in the lot... the lines of the car are really sweet to my eye.

    How do you decide? Regrets?

Eventually old batteries can by recycled to minimize the impact. And other chemistries and technologies will come along that are cheaper and less problematic now that EVs are seen as not just viable, but a lot of fun to drive. With ICE cars you have 100 million engines that spew CO and other...

    How do you decide? Regrets?

Back in 2015 I opted for the dual motor and so glad I did..not just for the AWD in snow but also the extra torque is super handy.... for squirting in front of people to get to that right hand exit etc. And the best part is all that power is SILENT. The only problem is when you have to drive an...

Congrats! I had a Camry Hybrid too before I got my Model S85D in 2015.

Out of curiosity, what do you hate about your Tesla?

April 2015 S85D (lives in Ca) So much to love.... here's the hates: crappy rear visibility / no blind spot warnings laggy response on scroll wheels use of end of stalk switches for washer and parking brake (get them confused)
  15. S

    V10 on MCU1

I have V10 on MCU1 and it works just fine. Bluetooth, etc. Spotify also. Hardware too old to do video streaming. Make sure you do a dual scroll wheel reboot though..

    Tesla as a 1st car?

If you buy her a used car, make sure it has a backup camera. I vote for the Prius idea

    Tesla easter egg idea

It's probably more work than the typical easter egg, but as a card carrying nerd I like the idea ;) Kudos to you for thinking of it! One negative: there will be a potential big delay when you put on the blinker...i.e. up to just shy of one blink cycle if you are unlucky. This might be a bit...

Regenerative breaking Model 3 vs Chevy Volt Gen 1

That's "braking", not breaking. Unless your brakes are broken 8) There are tradeoffs with strong regen...e.g. reduced battery life. I think regen tapering off at zero velocity is a good thing...forces you to put your foot on the brake, engages the hold function.
  19. S

I’m very happy with Version 9

I too know where I'm going 99% of the time. But I still want to see the traffic! I think your best reason for complaining is that you want the backup camera on top.

New owner, regen braking on highway

TACC is good but is too fussy about following distance. In relaxed traffic situations a light touch on the go-pedal and planning ahead gets the best energy use and frankly a better feeling ride. After a while you get a good feel for the 'neutral point' ...and BTW you don't need to be too fussy...

Can anyone tell me what this component is?

Oy! My eyes are bleeding from looking at all that messy greasy ICE guts ;)

Blog Tesla’s Pricier Model 3 Already Converting Owners of Mass Market Cars

Generally speaking it is a fact that the more you keep the charge / discharge limits between 20-80% the more totally kw you'll get in/out of the battery during it's lifetime. That said, it looks like these batteries do quite well with bigger cycling. It's also generally considered that...

Tesla fob, should we be concerned ?

Interesting ideas. Seems likely to have problems if there is any multipath around. (eg. when another car parks next to you, or passes by on the street.)

    A newbie screws things up

Oh, sorry, you pushed the MCU button to unlock. *THAT* should work!??!

    A newbie screws things up

You didn't unlock the car before pushing the button. (You don't want some random kid pulling out your charging cable when you aren't there do you?)

Failed range calculation left me stranded

Maybe the car could go into chill mode (and throw a notification to that fact) when the range is in the 'danger area'?

    Charging faster than expected to?

My guess is the charge rate calc is off when such puny rates of charge.

Summon out of garage, did NOT open door! Bump!

I have no use for Summon or GDO auto open/close, thankfully. I would not want to risk my $$$ car on such silly fripperies. As noted, most GDOs are a toggle. They don't track the state. BOO.

    Anyone got 2018.12 beta yet?

Got it yesterday. Initially maps was screwed up..could not find some destinations, SCs not showing usage, etc, also AP not willing to engage. Rebooted everything and things are back to normal but no difference in map appearance or speed yet. Q1 2015 S85D

You can also look for the tesla winds site mentioned in the forums. Has elevation and local wind info which can also be super useful.

    AEB Won’t Prevent an Accident

Thanks Buster1 for telling me about the "Doppler Notch", that's a good descriptive term for what's going on. The Tesla radar has a problem with roads that are strongly curved or steep hills. What is needed next (after stopping reliably when confronted with stopped cars 8) is the ability to...

Question about tesla navigation for battery prediction

The GPS data includes elevation, which is the biggest factor..it doesn't know about how much weight you have in the car..but it can figure out out when you go up a big hill and gradually adjust the expected charge at destination. It knows the temp (cold air: more drag), and it can see your...

    AEB Won’t Prevent an Accident

The reason is simple: radar clutter. The car sees huge reflections coming back from stationary objects with a dopper shift equal to it's own velocity. It is very difficult to be sure that the reflection is a car, and not the curvy-dish shaped end of a soda can reflecting a huge signal (for...

Question for Owners of both S and 3

The worst thing about the S, IMHO, is the lack of decent blind spot detection. It has some ultrasound sensors back there but they don't work worth a damn, IMHO (2015 85D) My wife's prius has radar (I think) for it and it flashes an icon on the mirrors to let you know. Works flawlessly and with...

Cannot Remote Start HVAC (Turns off after 10 seconds)

I'm confused. The app has always shown this 'going on' and then 'going back off' for me in 10s But it's not real. If you just come back in a bit it's really on. There was a posting about this a while back..something to do with how the app polls the servers. FYI...

Loud humming noise while charging at supercharger

Probably ~10% of the charging power is wasted as heat. With 120kw of charging current that's about 10-12kw. equivalent to 12 blow dryers under the car.....;) Hence the humongous fan that starts up...

    Autopilot thoughts

I have had autosteer just twitch off to the side for no reason I can see. It's very rare but it has happened 3-4 times..and this is on good marked highway (280 to San Francisco from Moumtain View, Ca). (I got the car in April 2015.) I always keep my hand on the wheel, so I'm able to keep it...

    Auto Park Accident

I don't use autopark, I don't use summon. And ...I am extremely careful with autosteer...watch it like a hawk. Good for covering you when you are tired as long as you are covering for it, too. I love the car but consider all this stuff toys that should be very carefully played with

I recommend silicon spray, not WD40 for things like this.
