Discount tire Got in my car without key 😮

Is it possible to purchase, set up and use the car without a bluetooth smartphone? I dont use a smartphone and prefer the simplicity and reliability of a basic keyfob. Always had various issues with Bluetooth with its bad reliability and security. Not sure why some people prefer it. Thanks

End of Life, guaranteed product support

Of course, but what about the aftermarket parts manufacturers who would normally fill that void after warranty? Because the AutoZone down the street doesn’t seem to carry any replacement parts for Tesla. There are plenty of less than qualified “shade tree” mechanics successfully repurposing...

Cabin noise refreshed 2021 Model S

ANC has been used in other manufacturers cars for a long time. Usually it acts as a mild supplement to reduce LF noise in an already otherwise quiet and well sealed interior. If you think about it, ANC can only go so far in a big cabin like a car. You have to worry about pressure sensation at...

End of Life, guaranteed product support

Does anyone else feel that an EV should come with an EOL end of life date set by the manufacturer? In the computer / smartphone world, companies will typically guarantee product support for 5 years, 7 years of parts, software updates, etc.. Any reason this doesn’t exist for EV’s? The way I...

Cabin noise refreshed 2021 Model S

In this mashup between different EV models, Kyle compares the NVH of each vehicle, and also does a great job with driving tests. To my ears, even older cars in the economy class such Hyundai Elantra will outperform any Tesla in a cabin noise test, particularly on the highway. Even by...

    New Model S concerns.

Happily enjoying my intuitive, simple, and reliable Bolt EV. Im waiting for all these luxury features to "shake out" in the coming years, when I have the feeling I will be purchasing some boring Lexus EV. It can take decades for a company to mature. Tesla will stay niche, which is fine. Let the...

Why I stopped caring about luxury EV's

Another observation I had while road tripping with the Bolt recently is I no longer have to drive 20 minutes out of my way to just to get a Tesla (insert registered trademark) charge in Tuscon as there are many CCS 3rd party charges to choose from. I found that pretty convenient and time...

Why I stopped caring about luxury EV's

I would argue that the Bolt I own is actually more comfortable on a long trip than my old Model S was, or even my friends new Model 3. Yes, Tesla seats are more comfortable (the Bolt EV's are fine for me), Tesla is faster (although Bolt is still pretty peppy for such a small car), and has...

Why I stopped caring about luxury EV's

I have owned and tinkered with many EV's over the years, and its my observation that boring, non-luxury, simple EV's such as the Bolt EV and the Kona EV are the only ones that are actually functionally reliable long term. They are about as high tech as you can get without things breaking...

Unplugged Performance becomes an official Tesla Service Center!

If this Instagram post is anything like how it sounds, it seems Unplugged Performance will be the first officially licensed, independent, 3rd party Tesla Service Center. This is big news for the community and ought to serve a foundation for how Tesla service should evolve moving forward...

New Y vs. keep CPO Japanese 7-10yrs

Hello all, was wondering which scenario is cheaper over the long term for a driver that does 30k miles a year. 1. buy/sell new Tesla every 2-3 years 2. purchase lightly used hybrid reliable boring Japanese car and keep it until 200k miles many years etc...? Because we all know that EVs...

"Restricted part" BOLT HF M8x50 PC109 MAT 1046838-00-A

Anyone know why these simple replacement bolts for a steering rack would be a "restricted" part # for service only (no customer sales allowed)? Is there a technical reason for this or is Tesla just being difficult as a means to control the servicing of their vehicles?

Will my bicycle and family fit?

I’ve been looking into the Pacifica PHEV and it sounds appealing for its presumably better highway cruising NVH and comfort vs Sienna. And I have charging already at work. But they seem to have the same problem as Tesla: They are expensive and problem prone. Except a Tesla is actually fun...

Will my bicycle and family fit?

I just looked in the back of a 6 seat Model X and it looks like it won’t even fit in that 6th slot because the load floor is so high in the trunk. It’s a real shame Tesla doesn’t offer a minivan. And an even bigger shame that minivans are not in style. In my view most of these so called SUVs...

Will my bicycle and family fit?

Wife desires a 7 seater for all the kids and dogs. I also want to carry my bike inside the vehicle everywhere. We currently drive a Bolt EV which doesn’t have enough seats for everyone, especially if I split the rear seat and bring my MTB (which effectively turns it into a 3 seater.) You...

I traded in my Model S for a Prius Prime

Congrats on your new Prius! I traded my old S for a Bolt EV and had very similar experiences. As fun and cool as Tesla's are, they will never be a "solid" car you can trust as a hand-me down. It felt like such a relief going back to a "normal" car. I no longer have to think about the ownership...

    Future PHEV's

As you add more batteries, the EV motor can spread its wings and offer plenty of pep to get the car rolling along. Package size indeed is an issue... Trick to order parts?

I simply sold my Tesla off once I realized that a simple repair could turn into a ghetto headache or impossible to get parts after the car is just 7-8 years old. Check out all the dead Roadster that are less than 10 years old, filling up the service center lots while customers wait for a new...

    Toyota chief doesn’t get it

I’ve been driving EVs for years and working on them as a technician for almost 2 years. Ohmmu Battery & 2020.28.6 update

    Model S gets $3K price drop then a $2570 drop to $69420!

Exactly. Instead of the two price cuts in quick succession, they could have “quietly” upgraded the NVH or craftsmanship. Rumor has it they are even putting double pane windows on Model 3! But they could give a rats a** about the Model S. Not worth 65k.... and after years of us customers...

    2012 P85 what to do

They do grudgingly produce and sell spare parts. The problem is some of these parts are restricted and not OTC. And important modules like HV pack (restricted item) for 2008-2011 roadster just doesn’t exist. This is unacceptable.

    2012 P85 what to do

I would agree with that, but unfortunately repairing Tesla’s is not as easy as breaking out a soldering iron and ordering standard parts. Tesla themselves don’t do this. Any Model S Owners planning on Model Y purchase?

Tesla’s are basically throw away vehicles. Nothing is built to last except for the battery. Hence all the part revisions. I would lease a car like that if I was rich as the performance is great, but doesn’t age well. Have fun servicing the proprietary car out of warranty. I do not regret...
