What were you driving at the start of the '10s.....

1998 thru 2018 I drove a 1996 Mercury Sable with the Duratec engine. Since it's pretty much the same car as the Ford Taurus, I swapped in a bunch of Taurus SHO parts. At a quarter million miles too many things were worn out and broken at once to fix anymore. Then I bought a 2018 Model 3 AWD...

Same here. Climate works, but charging stats still have Same here. Climate works again, but Charge Stats still has empty boxes.

App v 4.31.5. Climate controls vanished?

Happening for me too. I fixed it temporarily by uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but the problem came back in a few days :-( I hadn't noticed the charge stats problem, but just checked and I have that issue as well.

    Wipers

It's not just that the wipers are bad (which they are) but they are worse. It used to just be an annoyance that they didn't wipe, but I could just press the manual button. When it got annoying enough I'd switch it to manual mode while the wiper card was visible. Now it is frequently and randomly...

    MY will not automatically unlock

This still fails on my car all the time. Taking the phone out of my pocket and holding it near the car does not help. I usually have to shut off BT, wait for the Tesla app to complain about BT off, then turn BT back on. It's faster to just take out my key card (I never drive anywhere using just...

Winter tires -- should I buy the Tesla full tire set? (I'm in VT)

I have a 2018 Model 3 AWD in Denver. I went the first year with the stock tires. It was OK, but a little slippy. The next year I did what you ask about and bought a complete set of winter tires and wheels from Tesla. I didn't feel like researching alternates. They are much much more secure...

    Supercharger - Alamosa, CO

Glad to hear there's progress. I was just trying to plan a trip down to that area and was surprised by the lack of charging (including the lack of L2 chargers as a backup.)

I forget to mention my release is 2023.7.30 FSDb

M3P Auto wipers on when in Autopilot normal? [yes]

Same problem here with my 218 Model 3. Randomly wipe for no reason I can see (pun intended.) Sometimes it's just a wipe or two. Sometimes it goes for awhile. This is while FSDb is engaged; so, wipers can't be overridden.

Why does FSD run so many red lights?

I've had it do this one. It was not a particularly complicated intersection. It's between a semi major 4 lane road and a minor two lane road. I was on the 4 lane road. It pulled into the left turn lane and stopped at the red arrow. Then after a moment it just decided to go! It was a huge...

Tesla FSD - A Five Year Perspective

My experience mirrors this very closely. I'm also an engineer (software, mostly firmware and recently machine learning and computer vision.) I bought my Model 3 in November 2018 with EAP and added FSD with the same $2,000 deal. I'll agree that NoA works, once one turns off lane changes for...

2023.20.9 got rid of steering wheel nag!

I'd also wondered about the posts with people talking about accidentally disabling FSD via steering torque. My 2018 M3 is like yours. It's pretty much impossible to exit FSD w/o making the car veer. However, I just went on a trip and rented a 2022 M3. The torque feel was worlds lighter and I...

    2023.20.9 update

It did not persist. Next time in the car the BT again would not connect. As before, the car was still listed in the phone's list of BT connections and vice versa. Again, I had to delete the phone from the car's BT list and pair it again.

    Update 2023.20.7 bricked my car!

Sorry I phrased that poorly. Agreed that the specified problem isn't bricking. Just pedantically tossing in what I think bricking means.

Do Not Buy “HEPA” Cabin Air Filters for Model 3

Agreed on OEM. The replacement is infrequent, the OEM part is not that expensive, and the equipment it goes in -is- expensive.. An exemplar for a time to use the manufacturer part.
  22. GalacticHero

    Update 2023.20.7 bricked my car!

I think I'd allow "bricked" to be any condition requiring the manufacturer (or service center, etc.) to do the recovery. That could be using special tools, or worse case, complete replacement of the offending electronics. Just my $0.02 as a firmware engineer. BTW over the years I've worked on...

    2023.20.9 update

Yep, firmware engineer here :D The key still working shows that the hardware connection between the phone an the car still works; so, it's not a total fail of BT on either side.

    2023.20.9 update

I've been working from home (and not driving) all week so I went out to check. Once again, it won't connect to my iPhone. It's in the device list, but connect fails. 2023.20.9 update

I have 2023.7.20 (11.4.4) and it also has that problem. It works as a Bluetooth key, but no other BT features work because it fails connect. If I remove and reinstall it works again, but next time I get in the car it has the same problem.

Just use a mobile charger with 5-15 (at least initially)?

I used 120V charging for over a year when I bought my 3. I'd plug it in and start it charging when I got home from work. Since my round trip commute is 50 miles, I'd lose a bit of range every day. Then I'd have the weekend to top it back up. Occasionally if I drove it a lot on the weekend I'd...

    FSD 11.4.x experiences

You are not the only one. Mine regularly makes lane changes away from the the direction of the next turn it needs to make (this is in a no traffic condition, it's not trying to get around cars.) Then it wants to do a u-turn to come back. Of course, now that I know it really is going to do the...

    FSD 11.4.x experiences

Skipping the issue about human drivers speeding, I agree with the last point. IMO the regulatory bodies will require actual autonomous systems to obey traffic regulations, including speed limits. There will then be clickbait headlined articles about the road rage incidents blamed on the...

Big Things in the Back of a Model Y!

I have a 3 and have definitely lamented the extra utility of the Y. It's super annoying when there is something that would totally fit in the trunk if I could teleport it in, but won't fit through the trunk opening :-(

How to get music controls back?

Thanks for the question and solution on this. It happened to me and I hadn't researched the answer yet. I really don't like the UI changes. It's already a PITA using the entertainment system w/o physical buttons. Changing it every year just adds fuel to the fire.

    FSD 11.4.x experiences

Got 11.4.4 last night and it's already tried to kill me. It pulls up to a stop sign at a T intersection. With close oncoming traffic from the left, it decides to go for it and I slammed on the brakes. It's possible it was creeping up for a better look, but if so, it was "creeping" so fast as to...

HW4 - No Park Assist at all

Let me add, that aside from HW4 issues, Parking Assist does not work for parking in a garage. It only works in parallel parking or parking lot style parking. The original/basic mode of Summon can move a car into or out of a garage space, but that may be limited/unavailable by the switch Tesla...

FSD 11.3.6, cruise control and fsd icon on instrument panel intermittent, FSD won't engage

Glad I searched here. I thought I was going nuts. I've cleaned the cameras several times, but there's a stretch of road near my house that has always worked before, where I now get the "flickering steering wheel indication" problem. It's double strange since this is two wide lanes each...

Tesla, Please consider: One simple tweak could turn FSD beta from "pretty bad" to "pretty sweet"

Well, slap me along side the head. I thought it was just stupidly defaulting to Assertive. I must always be pushing the control to the right. I was setting it back to Average with a button touch, not realizing the wheel left-right was changing it. Although, I have to punch the MLC button anyway.

Tesla, Please consider: One simple tweak could turn FSD beta from "pretty bad" to "pretty sweet"

That's the thing though. As a coder of long standing I assert that this is not even Beta code. Beta code is when you have it very close to done, but want some outside testing to try and catch outlier bugs. If there are known limitations, you warn the testers, and it's generally expected the...

Tesla, Please consider: One simple tweak could turn FSD beta from "pretty bad" to "pretty sweet"

I just got V11 of FSD over the weekend. Before I got accepted into FSD Beta, I had almost given up on Autopilot due to all the very poor lane change choices. Discovering the option to turn off lane changes for speed saved it for me. It was then pretty useful, except with all the phantom...

HW4 and Center Horn on 2023 Model S?

Exactly. Also I don't want my muscle memory retrained. I still have to drive other cars. I want standard shaped steering control, normal horn placement, and same for the turn signals. For that matter, the 3/Y speedometer placement is problematic too, out of sight line. It would be worse except...
