Update: I got my car back today (it was really ready at the end of yesterday, but I couldn't get over there then). The part that was ordered and replaced was:

MDL S, DM, THERM SYS, ELEC BATT HEATER(1038901-00-K)

Out of pocket would have about $700, but I only paid the extended service agreement deductable of $200. Everything seems good now.

Communication with the service advisor was all by SMS, but he was quite responsive to a couple of messages I sent. They even charged my car before I picked it up. Overall a very satisfactory service experience.

Bruce.

We had two very brief "Vehicle May Not Restart" messages pop-up - one for a couple seconds Monday morning, one for for a couple seconds Tuesday night (but neither had an error code attached). Already had a service appt scheduled, so just messaged via app to have them pull the logs.

Just got a "parts update" email, and the Elec Batt Heater 1038901-00-K part is the one ordered. Since we're out of warranty, here comes another $700...:(

EDIT: Did searching on the part name instead of part number to see this is apparently related to supercharging...this past Sunday was the first time the car was ever charged at a 150 kW SC, so I'm going to blame that.

I had the same issue on my late 2016 Model X days before the warranty expired.

My issue also occurred after supercharging (specifically after the car preconditions the battery for supercharging).

Turned out it was my battery heater as well. I think originally, these cars did not precondition battery for supercharging and a recent software update either started doing the preconditioning or was more aggressive about it on older cars. The battery heater may have been dormant and kind of broken but never was used in this manner so it never previously triggered the issue.

FYI I just had the same battery heater part replaced on 2016 S under extended warranty, but unlike posters above I haven’t Supercharged this car in months and we seldom Supercharge ever. It happened when outside temps have been over 100 degrees for many weeks. Strange deal.

Unfortunately, I got this error on my 2015 Model S last week, it has only ~55K miles on it. I had just completed a short highway trip - and had supercharged it a couple of times. I wonder if this error has something to do with the fact that after a recent software update, the car now does a "precondition the battery" routine for "optimizing supercharging". About 4 wks ago, the 12V battery had failed (also after a brief super charging experience). In that case, had to wait for 2 wks and pay $200+ to get the mobile tech to replace it. But now, the next appointment is not until Dec 22! Two issues within a month for a car with low mileage and no problems until now - it is hard to believe that this is not connected to some software release without proper testing. No way to even prove that these are Tesla's mistakes, and I am sure I have to pay $$$ :-(. Lastly - I had ordered my second tesla (M Y) in July - I don't even have a VIN or a reliable delivery date yet! So the old MS doesn't drive, I'm wasting tons of hours on repairs, and the new car has no ETA, and no transportation mechanism while I wait. It is all extremely frustrating even for the most ardent of fans.

Had the same error messages, dropped the car off at the local SC on my way home. Was told the rear drive unit failed a test, so they’re going to replace it under warranty but unfortunately the parts are on backorder so it may take a month or more, yay. Hopefully they find more things to replace under the 8yr battery/motor warranty since the car is going to just sit for a month now.

2015 P85D 97k miles

Anybody knows what is the difference between these versions? Do I need to do car programming if I replace it with a different version?
1038901-00-D
1038901-00-E
1038901-00-F
1038901-00-H
1038901-00-J

Here are some info I know but nothing definitive on these particular version #s

- Tesla switched from Phillips to LG supplier at some point for the coolant heater. I got a -G installed in 2017 that was an LG.
- The connector also cause contact problems sometime in 13-14 ( link ) Maybe some version # reflect that?

Also just managed to discover how to turn on the heater just now ( link )

People have replaced them without mentioning programming so likely not necessary.
