Same as every other P90D from that period. That sticker line item was the differentiator for the brief period when they were selling both the 85 and 90 kWh batteries.Thinking about Buying a p90d 2016 . The window sticker mentions original owner paid $3000 for Upgraded range. What range does it have with the upgraded range ? Thanks
So why did the originalIt's a 90kwh battery.
I already told you. When Tesla was selling both the 85 and 90 packs (which are actually the same pack but the 90 has different chemistry cells with higher energy density), the “upgrade” from the 85 to 90 cost $3,000.So why did the original
Owner pay $3000 for upgraded range? Dealer I’m buying the car can’t explain it .

That’s all well and true, but in this case they were truly different physical battery packs, not any software trickery. You can cap a higher capacity battery to function as a smaller one, but not the other way around. Tesla chose to offer the 90kwh pack as an upgrade, "5kwh for only $3k!" instead of a discount, "save 3k and only lose 5kwh!"
Just like the 3/Y range has a cap on performance that is removed when you pay an extra $8k. Or if you buy an S, the premium is $23k (though I guess you do get a nifty spoiler.) The underlying hardware (battery/motors/inverters) is the same "high performance" spec between the cars, but they are able to change the features in software.
Lol, the 90s - particularly the early ones - are more or less universally regarded as turds. Where do you get this info?In addition to additional range, the 90kWh battery pack had newer technology for longer life and more charging cycles. All round a better battery pack.
That is mostly false. They had that initial slightly higher capacity, but turned out to be worse in almost every other way.In addition to additional range, the 90kWh battery pack had newer technology for longer life and more charging cycles. All round a better battery pack.

Lol, no. The 90 has different more energy-dense cell chemistry that raises the full pack capacity to ~86kwh.No it isn't. It's an 81kwhr, just like every other "85" out there. Tesla just decreased the size of the buffer, added the pyro fuse for additional output.
