Dan: what's the last few digits of your VIN? Mine is 125078.

124513. Bet yours will be on the train/truck soon! My car spent 6 days in the production status.

@cman8: I was thinking the same thing. I'd love it if the mailed my FOB to me after confirmation and enabled the Tesla app so that I could track the car. Webcams on the assembly line would be great- a feed from the front or rear camera would be amazing.

Where did you get that? Even with a fast line, it would take longer than an hour to do everything. Remember there's painting of parts, staging them, and so on, in addition to just bolting everything together. All that and a lot more is part of "production."

Final product probably takes less than a day, but there are many sub-assemblies that need to be made before the final assembly. The dashboard is a major sub-assembly, so are the drive units, battery packs, etc.

Hi--to make a long story short, based on my working life, we would look at the big picture to plan tooling & takt time production to determine how many parts or sub assemblies we would need to produce to meet "x" number of cars being built per hour or per day. We worked very tight to Just-In-Time so not all the details & data is included in this educated guess: 25,000 cars per year divided by 220 working days per year (UAW vacations, tool & other maintenance, etc) = 114 cars per day; I thought Fremont was working 10 hour days (one shift) so about 11 cars per hour not including re-work or any scrap. Not perfect or based on any inside info from or via Fremont--just a shot from the hip to get a better understanding of how many cars COULD be coming off the line per day. I realize that when they say "In Production" it does not mean that the car is on the line for 6 days. I hope.

I confirmed on 1/14. Got an email that my car went into production today. If anything, mine seems to have been pushed up. VIN is 125792

Kevin

Congrats--your VIN beat my VIN!

My VIN probably stopped to talk to the really cute & smart girl giving the plant tour. He is a very bad boy. Yes VIN's are usually produced sequentially but sometimes crap happens & maybe mine got pulled for some reason. Like sexual harassment.

Based on what I have read (here in this thread & other threads), call the toll free number & give them your info & see what they say. Maybe it's just the excitement of waiting but the communication between Fremont & the outside world is not very good.

Thanks for the advice! I called them today and left a message. Got a return phone call within about an hour from another DS that said he would be taking over as my primary point of contact. He confirmed all my details and said he'd be back in touch soon to schedule a final pick-up day.

As of the e-mail I received at 3:21 this morning, my car has now "Entered Production". The estimated delivery date has not changed but I know it is sooner that "Late March/Early April". Who wants a beer?

Congrats! Once mine finished production (after 5 days) and went to In Transit this past Saturday, my delivery date became February 27, 2016 - March 12, 2016. My DS (same as yours) said it will take 2 trains and a trailer to get to the Decatur GA showroom and expects delivery to actually happen right about March 1st. Hopefully that helps provide you some insight.

It does--Thank you for the update. 2 trains plus a truck? Hopefully the weather cooperates...now the really tough wait begins.

Yah, this is the part where you totally loose sight of the car.... the in-transit delivery process.
I suspect it is going to Chicago by train. From there many northeast cars travel on from Chicago to Newark NJ.
However that would not be correct for your final destination.
You may want to ask the delivery specialist what the second train yard is... It may be Baltimore MD??
And then from there trailer to your SC?

In my case the transit by train is Fremont to Chicago to Newark by train. Then a trailer from Newark to Milford, CT Service Center.
if the transit is by enclosed trailer then Fremont to some delivery stops in between then to the Milford, CT SC.

I have notice that as the end of the quarter comes into focus, Tesla will ship out via Enclosed trailers direct to customer homes from Fremont.
However, breaking that rule, about 12 Signature Model X arrived in two enclosed trailers with a P90DL. This happened about 3 weeks ago.
All those X are delivered. Large ticket cars for sure.
