I really hate the way the updates are rolled out. It’s horrible. Some get it some don’t, so random. Not premium at all. Way more android like ha

Wow, first world problems!

I’ve had my Model 3 for 51 weeks.
Just got my 15th! software update.

Be thankful they don’t put the whole fleet at risk so you can be first with the new toy. One bad misstep and they’d put they whole company at risk...think about it. Or maybe you just want the once a year iOS experience (and I’m an Apple guy).

After the update was complete, the Ambient Lighting was once again, disabled. Thanks for teasing...:p

If it makes you feel better, I've always had ambient lighting in my cars but have turned it off in my 3. With no lights coming from the dashboard, the ambient lights are too noticable and were distracting.

Does the SR+ still have the lights on the steering wheel?

I get where you're coming from, but a few things to consider:

1) They don't have the ability to blast updates of this size to everyone simultaneously. Few companies do, let alone car companies.
2) Tesla use customers as integration/beta testers to minimize the internal testing team size (cost savings), which is one reason why there are so many versions out there.
3) The randomness of update delivery is purely to get a fresh data sample to help flush out blocking issues quickly.

I'm not a big fan of #2, because that should be an opt-in scenario. I get why they do it, but it's a touch sleazy IMO.

Actually I think they do. Once the flood gates open for the release it only takes a couple days before the bulk are updated.

What I believe they do is randomly pick a small subset (maybe 1%). Then they monitor problems with that 1%. If problems arise they update that same subset. They repeat this until it’s stable. Once they label it stable they release to everyone.

It’s very fair and practical way to do things.

Things might vary by your trim or model or age hardware. On top of everything else.

I suspect 12.x is rolling out to everyone now and it will be the primary version most folks have in just a couple days.

They may possibly widen the small sample from say 1% to 5%. But it’s hard to tell if they do that.

still on 2019.5.15 here - definitely been more than 5/6 weeks

Sure but assuming TeslaFi is a decent sample size you are one of less than 2% of the population. Are there really features you NEED to have RIGHT NOW that would make your car significantly better or enjoyable. In most cases we are looking at a few % improvement here and there.. Again I know there have been improvements but in the grand scheme of things whats 60 days in the life of a car? At some point you'll be one of the "lucky" ones to get something first. Most of the time you'll be in the middle of the group along with the big pushes.

What do you mean turned up?

I had a SC appointment yesterday. When I arrived at the SC I had no FW update notification, at least not that I noticed. When I went out to the car with the technician the FW notification icon was there.

There are many anecdotal stories about FW updates being pushed quicker when connected to Tesla wifi, I never believed them myself, until now... :)
