About time to unveil the D and something else

None of last nights announcements fixed existing issues for me (third row ventilation, good rear cupholders) or pushed buttons on my options list that might make me want to upgrade (higher end interior, considerably higher range, cooled seats, differentiated styling that says "Hey, I got the Mac Daddy version" a la M series or AMG versions).
All in all, good for Tesla and for more press but sort of like going from an iphone 4 to a 4s. Adding Siri and a better processor isn't worth upgrading.

It's going to be the Model X that gets the interior "just right" as far as conveniences. I can't remember where I heard it, but I think that someone from Tesla had publicly stated that Model X was designed to be more family friendly than the S.

Did anyone get pictures of the Frunk on the D? Someone mentioned only the microwave is missing. I really use the frunk space a lot on road trips and just losing the microwave would be okay as long as the rest of the frunk space remains.

I just got a response from the Tesla delivery specialist. I was also slated for December delivery, you can change your order. I do not know yet if this impacts the delivery date.

In the big scheme of things, the D is not that much more than the 85+: 14600 vs 6500 for the "+" package AND the leather seats included (count them as either 1500 or 2500). SO 5K more for AWD - similar to the other models. Worth it in my opinion.

So what's the goodness that would justify a purchase price delta of $25K-$30K between the P85D and a well-optioned S85D? There's the obvious 'Wow!' factor inherent in lots more hp and insane performance; but beyond that, where's the value proposition? New seats? Cyclone wheels? What else?

Yea, were I buying now with the money I had then, I'd probably go that route. 5.2 is pretty darn quick and 295 mile range vs 275.

I can't fathom why anyone would buy the P now without the AWD option though. That seems pointless....and describes my current car :(

I've been a lurker and a Tesla enthusiast for years, but I am just finally creating an account. As an IT Manager, something like Tesla makes me full of glee. These new improvements are remarkable and I'm going to end up buying one. As soon as I stop working in the non-profit sector :p

I'll probably have to wait for the Model 3, but the AWD and autopilot are going to be a must. I'll also be changing my name to Michael Knight

I felt that way about the difference between the S and the P and the P+.

But there is to me a difference when your talking around 3.5 or below. From time to time (and at the moment), I miss the Roadster acceleration. Not that I could use it much but there is a real thrill when the number gets really low and the car stays level. I would definitely need to test drive the D first. Really trying to not think about it as it is $25K or so difference and the value of a trade-in etc....

Hmm... About the 3.2 seconds and 600+ hp.
Couldn't care less.
Can I please get a S85 2WD with 180 hp, maintained range and lower price?

1. Open two browser windows to Design Studio.
2. Split-screen so you can look at both at the same time.
3. On the left, click (Cash), (P85), (Dual Motor), and (Show selected options).
4. On the right, click (Cash), (85), (Dual Motor), and (Show selected options).

Observe the differences:
  • $120,170 vs. $85,070
  • Performance
  • 4500 - 21" Grey Turbine Wheels vs. 19" Wheels
  • 1500+ - (next generation seat in Leather) vs. Black Textile Seats
  • 1500 - White Alcantara Headliner vs. Textile Headliner
  • Tesla Red Brake Calipers
  • 4250 - Tech Package With Autopilot
  • 2250 - Smart Air Suspension

(Note that the seat for P85D is indicated in the "Interior" panel at the top.)

Tallying up the cost to option up the S85D (the numbered ones in my list) adds $14,000 - bringing it to $99,070.

So the $21,100 buys you: Performance, next generation seat, Tesla Red Brake Calipers. Unless I screwed up somewhere.

Hope this helps.

This is insane! This is going to cause a lot of people to want to upgrade. Will be tough to resist.

The fact that it's $50k more than my current Model S and about $100k more than my previous car will go a long way to help me resist. That said, I'm excited to think about the fact that many of those features and performance characteristics will be on my wife's Model X when we get that next year.
