Wow, I thought the Tesla wheels were cast since they’re so heavy, especially in the 20” version.

The wheels might be heavy because they have a ton of material, the spokes are thick, etc. Tesla also has to warranty these wheels and might have had them overbuilt because it would reduce the number of good will warranty replacements they had to do when someone drove through a huge pothole.

I'm leaning towards TSW Bathurst, really like the design but not sure I want to go wider than stock and they don't make it in an 8.5" width.

Bathurst does come in 20x8.5 ET40. I have ordered a staggered set with these in the front. But most delers seems to be out of stock at the moment

Tesla wheels are supposedly flow formed and not cast.

There are a lot of very nice looking rotary forged wheels out there in the $250 a piece range... no way I can justify spending 4x as much on wheels.

Flow formed = rotary forged. Some wise marketing type decided to rebrand flow formed as rotary forged, as it makes consumer think the wheel is forged, however there is no forging at all. The process is for shaping barrel section of the wheel from the casting. Stock model 3 wheel of all sizes are casted then flow formed. Flow form align the structure of the metal crystals to make them stronger. Barrel of the wheel is what’s carry the weight of the car. Spokes are for transferring torque from powertran to tire/road. True forged wheels are CNC machine milled from forged billets, spoke and barrel. A quick internet search would come up with plenty of video and information, probably more than you care to know.

Would strongly urge you to offer instead the Tesla specific Pilot Sport 4S tires in 235/35 and 275/30 sizes in this package. They are actually each respectively wider than the nominally larger non-Tesla 245/35 and 285/30 tires, have acoustic foam, and perhaps other structural changes, including probably a change in tread and sidewall composition to allow them to tolerate the 42-45 lbs of tire pressure recommended by Tesla. And despite all the anxious reporting that Michelin's own information suggests that they might frown on a 10.5 inch wheel on the 275/30, I've had them for just under a month and they sit beautifully on the wheel. The section width of that tire is actually over 11 inches by my direct measurement, so it is not stretched on the wheel in any way. Plus, you are not changing your final drive ratio, and losing some off the line torque and launch as a result.

No question that this is a gorgeous wheel package!

Just thought I'd pass along a great deal that I found.

305 Forged Wheels has their 5x114.3 FT101 flow-formed wheels in the 20x9 (+32), 20X9.5 (+25) and 20X10.5 (+42) wheels for 45% off. Total for 4 is $950! I ordered yesterday and wheels were shipped (from CA) same day. Ground shipping for me (NY) was $75. I won't be able to install for a few months as I live in the frozen tundra of upstate NY, but it seemed like such a good deal that I figured I'd jump on it.

I have no affiliation with the company.

Nice...which setup did you end up going with? I was looking at these a while back and been waiting to see how they look on a Model 3 first.

20x9 and 20x10.5 staggered. It'll be a few months (sadly) before it's warm enough to install.

Just curious what those might weigh? I love the look of the Vorsteiner 107, but their reported weights were really inaccurate - off by 5 lbs, and therefore heavier than the Advanti 20X9 that we have on the other car. But I suspect that you will love the look of the staggered setup. My only remaining concern about it (vs. classic squared up setup in AWD) is with potential terminal understeer - at any reasonable speed on the street, the car seems still pretty neutral, but I wonder if track mode would still allow some oversteer despite the bigger rear tire?
