Autopilot not available/ auto headlights won’t turn off

Took mine in to Tesla Service yesterday to fix this intermittent drop-out problem (VIN # ...561XX, 8/18 build). I was not encourage when the service specialist said they would fix it with a firmware update, but then again he only had been there two months so I take his statement with a grain of salt:(.

I was encouraged however that they at least got the car into the shop within hours to began work on the headlight & taillight alignment issues, since I could see the frunk and trunk were open on my Tesla app (they forgot to disable remote access). The Service specialist indicated it would take up to a week, but he also thought the headlight and taillight flushness alignment would be done at an outside body shop, which surprised me, and doesn't appear to be the case.

Will post a follow-up when I get it back. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the acceleration of my Model S P85D loaner:).

So I got a call yesterday from my Tesla Service Advisor...the guy with 2 months experience. He said the techs told him that the headlights were coming on because the wipers where on. I politely told him BS, both the headlights and wipers are both on automatic, and my lights come on during the bright daylight, and the automatic wipers don't come on. Look further:mad:.
He later called and said the techs thought my "Cruise not available" was due to bad road lines, and again I had to call BS:mad:. I told him the that this was an intermittent problem which occurs in broad daylight on well marked lanes.

He didn't even know about the "bug reports", which I've religiously logged for each failure. Nor had they looked at the original service case #, (which I"d referenced in my Service request).

In the original service call, in which the "Vehicle Support Specialist" (from Service Call Center in Utah) who analyzed my car diagnostic logs, said it appear to be a hardware "inconsistency" with the Autopilot ECU (Intel based central processor), and they'd seen this in other cars due to power supply failures on the computer. However, he deferred to the local service center, who wanted to see the car.

This seemed like a poor attempt to kick the can down the road, and not fix the problem. I told them they need to look at the diagnostic logs and the bug reports, and fix the problem:mad:. I'm disappointed they are trying to dismiss this problem as normal, but will not accept this, regardless of how busy they are.

That sucks man, try recording a video and sending it to them. Proving that the road lanes are clearly visible, the auto wipers aren’t on, and the headlights are on in daylight.

Another dead giveaway is that the cameras should detect and display vehicles around the vehicle at all times. When the concern is present, the touch screen will show no cars

Yup don’t give up and don’t let them waste more of your time. Your symptoms and sequence is exactly like us that got computers swapped. Also note that bug reports don’t last too long...a few days.you need to take a quick pic of the screen when it happens so you have the timestamp to document later. Video is better but be safe.

I've driven > 400 miles now, and still no AP. Kinda thinkin' it's never going to calibrate. And when I try calling support, I'm transferred to the nearest (Littleton CO) service center voicemail, which is full, with no option to leave a message. So, how do I get someone to help with the feature I paid $5K for ...??? Also, will "mobile service" address this for me? It's a 3 hour round trip drive (assuming good traffic; much more if bad) to the service center. And, that's 6 hours of (good traffic) driving if I have to drop it off and go back later for it.

Sounds like you’re another victim of a paid option not being installed. Call and connect to the roadside assistance and tell them to get your a tech. You can also schedule an appointment via your Tesla account. If you’re not seeing the steering wheel icon to the top left of your car on the screen, EAP wasn’t turned on before delivery. They can do this over the air while guiding you on the phone.

Unfortunately not surprised. This issue has deeper roots. Did all of you have EAP turned ok from the factory? I paid for it and it was on my window sticker but Tesla never activated it. I had to call a couple hundred miles later and it was pushed over the air. Wondering if that’s causing the bugginess.
Day 2 after delivery went on a 2hr daytime drive. First 30 min EAP worked great, then kicked off. After several reattemps it came back for short while then quit again. Stopped restarted and it worked for short while then quit again. Will try at night next.

Follow-up on my Tesla Service, for "Cruise Not Available" and no AutoPilot:

So after talking with the Technical Service Supervisor at my Service Center, he insisted they could not duplicate the errors, but did say:
after pouring over the vehicle’s data with a broader scope, we did find some data of interest which we are pursuing further. We’re currently awaiting another 2nd opinion from our Service Engineering team

In a subsequent telcon he did speculate that some abnormal conditions on in the diagnostic reports, could possible be a rebooting of the autopilot computer. They also created a Toolbox session, (not entirely sure what that is), and Engineering reported that no issues were found, no vehicle data. They did inspect the "autopilot system connections" and updated my firmware to Version 9.

In his final telcon, he indicated that there were several bug fixes in V9 including some for the autopilot errors, but I was skeptical that it would fix my problem. My autopilot computer was not replaced, as with others in this thread.

Anyway, I drove 200 miles home from Service Center today on the interstate and two lane state highways. No dropouts and Autopilot has never worked better, so for now I'm happy:).

P.S. Automatic headlights are work properly too:).

It seems V9 fixed my autopilot problems. But if the root cause was software bugs, I don't understand how others in this thread had their cars fixed with Autopilot computer replacements while running pre-V9 software.

I guess another mystery of Teslao_O

I haven't read all 5 pages of this thread so sorry if this has already been covered.

I got the "Cruise not available" due to reduced front radar visibility message for the first time ever today (3/18 build, VIN 11XXX), 3 days after installing V9. During that, no other cars were being shown on the screen. This was on a street that I've driving on literally hundreds of times in different light and weather conditions. Car is clean. I can't help but think something changed due to V9.

Wish that it would default to standard cruise control if TACC isn't available, but I can understand why they wouldn't want to do that in a car where the driver is used to TACC.

Finally it's my turn to get my car in for service last Tuesday. I've been getting status update via text message saying that my car was in line for service but they were too busy. They finally got to it today and found out that I needed some replacement "computer parts". They said It's a quite complicated procedure. It will take a few more days to get the parts and have a replaced.

My car started doing this “no cruise” today, I just got this car last Tuesday and it has the newest update v9. When I called Tesla this morning the dude said he had other calls this morning about the same thing and said another tech department needed to troubleshoot it and will call/email.... so now I wait

Aw man...wish I wasn’t here since that means I can report the same issue as this very thing just happened to me today, first time. It was raining and I swear the auto-wiper senors went out along with the EAP, I needed to hit them up manually. The car has been all but flawless (about 12k miles in) and I use autopilot everyday.... I quickly realized how much I missed it when it wasn’t there!
Hard reboot has my EAP working again for now. I much prefer that over a computer replacement.

I have to ask even though I have seen it posted numerous times....how are you performing the "hard" reboot? Pushing in both scroll wheels while pressing brake?
