Typically, it's a 2 days turn around from the day you get your VIN for San Jose. That's my case for the last 4 VINs. With VIN, you can purchase insurance for the car. I've heard you can just upload the current insurance w/o Tsla vin. Later in the day, they will reach out via text to confirm your address and other stuff. After your confirmation, the next day, they'll send you the documents and final payment to your account. They may call you to confirm or if anything is missing. Basically, you have 1 buffer day to prepare everything for the delivery. I guess you can just call SA to see if you can push the delivery 1 day earlier.
I feel like my SA is not that responsive (or it might be me). Would I just call the number they text me from?

Got my VIN yesterday and today a text arrived saying they will be delivering to my house Wednesday. I had wanted to pick it up at the SC in Vallejo, about 10 miles from my home in Benicia. So I was going to try to reach someone about it, but decided to drive to the SC to see if it had arrived and talk to someone if necessary.
It was there, looked flawless except for a bit of dirt on some lower parts. So now I’m fine with home delivery.
Took some pictures too.

Ordered 2/26/2021
Model Y - Long Range
Deep Blue Metallic
Gemini wheels
Tow hitch
5 Seater

This happened to me as well in SF. I got VIN assigned on March 1. SA called me for delivery on March 2 and I accepted delivery on March 3. The car was built on March, 2021.

The turn around time is crazy now! Took my Model Y almost a month to get assigned in October...

Helped my friend order black exterior, black interior with Gemini wheels and no extras on March 12...

March 14 got assigned VIN 146xxx

They scheduled delivery to house in San Diego for March 18 9am-6pm.

(surprised with the home delivery too because they didn’t give me that option for mine or when i ordered for my friend & were to pick at Carlsbad center)

Posted in the 7-seat waiting room already but figured it might be helpful to fellow Californians...

Ordered: 1/16/21
Config: MY LR AWD, White/Black, 20", 7s, No FSD, No Tow
VIN: 148xxx on 3/16/21
Delivery: ???

Anyone in San Diego with experience at the Carlsbad SC have any downsides to home delivery vs pick-up? I haven't seen the option to request it yet, but mid-week would be difficult for me to do with work.

I’m in Poway. Picked mine up at the Carlsbad SC October 2020 as a 2021 model. Didn’t have an option for home delivery then.

Pick up went like this:

little brother drove me up on appointment day and time, went in and checked in, they escorted to car staging area, we inspected for like 10 minutes, went back in lounge, handed over down payment check and signed a couple papers, 10 minutes later...they drove it out front and handed over key cards (Phone key didn’t work or register right away since they said it takes an hour or so to activate after they marked delivered)

A little sad I didn’t get heated steering, auto dimming mirrors, usb in glove compartment (no Tesla usb either), new headlights, new center console, and the new $1500 credit...but I bought the car because I loved the driving experience and would do all over again!
